Buy Budget ($2) Fountain Pen As Wedding Favor

Hi everyone!

I am getting married in a few months and I am considering buying fountain pens as wedding favors for my male guests. Do you think it is a good idea? Would you like to receive a budget fountain pen as a wedding detail?

I would need to buy 150, and my budget is ~$2/pen (including gift box, engraving/customization, shipping to Europe and customs if they can not be avoided). I would like to engrave a couple of words, either in the pen or in the box.

Where do you think I should buy them? I am thinking about contacting the main fountain pen sellers in eBay or Aliexpress or even Alibaba. Do you think they will be willing to customize the pen/box?

I am considering the following models: Baoer 801 (parker vector style), jinhao x750 (maybe it is too expensive for my budget, ...), jinhao 126 (my favorite design, but may be uncomfortable for writing), jinhao 599 (but my fiancée does not like at all the plastic design). What do you think about these options? Would you advise any other within my budget?

Have a great day!!

Contact Bobby on eBay, his store is office_supplies_pen. He's the best seller of Chinese pens there and his listings always say something like "wholesale available". Might get the best deal on such a large lot through him!

Also, if Bobby doesn't have anything you like for the right price, you can always search eBay for "fountain pen", buy it now, price low to high. It's tedious to slog through, but I've managed to find great deals on pens this way. Earlier this year I found a couple sellers listing X750's for $0.99 with free shipping, so I bought five to give to friends. They were genuine Jinhaos, too, but took a month to arrive 😄

Thank you, I just sent him a message. How can I know if it is genuine? I guess that you think x750 is the best option, right? The problem of buying them directly from ebay is that it is limited to 10 units, and many times they do not include the gift box and they cannot be engraved. And buying separately the pen, the box and engraving them is expensive.

I found in Aliexpress a seller who offers by $3 many models (jinhao x750, jinhao 126, jinhao 911, jinhao 101, baoer 3035...) including shipping, gift boxes, and engraving, but I still find it a bit expensive.

both jinhao x750 and baoer 801 are good, cannot say alot about others, and there alot more popular chinese ones, but the main problem with chinese pens is that they have inconsistency in quality, and they not gonna guaranty you that all of them are perfect right out of the box

yes most jinhaos x750 have good review but i guess no one ever bought 150 in one batch like you want, so no one really knows how many of them can have problems

do not wanna scare you but thats how it usually is >< i guess most of them going to be fine if you buy from trusted seller.

about gift boxes/case - never seen pens under 3$ with them, usually they include them in more pricy deals, but maybe you can persuade seller to sell you them with pens

the only cheap way i know to get them is to look for "10 Pcs fountain pen case" on aliexpress, this cases are going for around 1$ for 10

Thank you. I will try to find a trusted seller, bass1193 already gave me one in the previous post.

It is a good idea, I have seen there are some aliexpress sellers offering 10 pen pouch holders for $1.48, but I still need to engrave or customize the pen.

Honestly, I think most counterfeiters are targeting Hero pens (their 616 especially), which are pretty obvious if you compare them to the real deal

The customization requirement is probably going to be the hardest part, unless you know someone with a 3d printer who can make some neat commemorative baubles that you can attach to the pen sleeves/cases you find.

$3 for a customized Jinaho with a case seems like a remarkably good deal, though 50% over your desired per-unit cost.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
