Pelikan M1000

A seller on Yahoo tries to sell Pelikan M1000 for 300 USD, he has/had two black EF and one black F and one green-striped F - NOS.

Nobody is interested. It doesn't seem to be expensive if I look at Amazon or Ebay e.g. So I am wondering why the Pelikan-liking Japanese are not buying them.

It is OK with me, as I have now a black and a green with F nib. The black one has already arrived and was absolutely new. The green one will arrive tomorrow - said to be same condition.

Remaining are two EFs:

Good luck.

Yes, same seller.

Received the green M1000 today - and it is also unused - as described.

Reminder - the two EF pen auctions end in 1h (10/22 13:30 GMT).

If my translator worked correctly, it was reposted for another 2 days.

I don't know how to operate that website in Japanese... and how/why so cheap?!

Now on my desktop and a real keyboard:

To be able to bid you need to have an account and be logged-in. You also need a Japanese address.

The rest is quite well-explained in the link I posted before. A good start. Of course, you can also use other proxy services. Ask on FPN which one they use.

Why so cheap?

I guess because the more expensive the starting bid is, the fewer people are interested. The Japanese all want to get the super deal and rip-off the seller.

So, the seller hopes that the bidders get into a bidding war - many Japanese take it personal if some other person leads. Sometimes the wars start 5 days before end of the auction.

IMO, the seller should have started this at 10000. I guess the final would have been more to 40000 than - as in my cases - the starting bid. I bought 2 new M1000 (black and green F) for less than the price of one new at shops. So, I got two good deals.

Thank you.

I am very satisfied with the M1000. It is my preferred pen size, the F-nib is also exactly what I wanted. Using it with Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue, it doesn't bleed through my 70g/m2 (cheap) loose-leaf paper. That is rare, most/all other pens do.

I also have some older Pelikan but I prefer these new pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
