Can someone point me to a thread or link that will help me identify the specific model of Vacumatic for purposes of finding the right replacement cap jewel? Thanks.

hi - assume you have a Vac. and need the jewel? It might possibly help your request if you post a picture of your pen - with a close up of the cap/tassie arrangement. :)

Agree. A picture or two would be helpful.

OK. Here are two that are missing the cap jewel and clip. Three photos for each pen.

Both take a black jewel non-blue diamond Parker clip.

You are showing two different pens correct?

Yes, two different pens. I assume the jewels and clips come in different sizes. Also, the clips had variations other than blue diamond. I am hoping to find a comprehensive guide to such things (understanding that there is no perfect match due to transitions, repairs, etc.), but maybe I'm expecting too much.

As you posted pictures of two pens (both 3rd generation Juniors), I also posted a pictures of two caps from the same model.

I have been trying to post again and again for the last almost two hrs but my post would disappear in the wind after hitting the post button. :).

In short look for clips and jewels of 3rd gereration Junior. The black jewels are the same as on the 3rd generation Major. Clip size is also the same but, unlike the Major, it is non-blue diamond on the Junior. Pen size of 3rd generation Major and Junior is also the same. But beside the clip difference (Major has blue diamond clip) cap bands are also different. Major has wide cheveron cap band while Junior has two thin cap bands like on yours.

There is only one size/style clip for the pens shown which are as indicated 3rd generation Junior pens. They are non-lifetime pens and in addition to the difference pointed out by Mitto, the nibs are smaller. There is also a three band cap on the Standard.

Thanks for the responses. I know it has been a struggle to post anything these last few days (I've had a lot of issues with the FPN site), so I appreciate the effort.

Something else to keep in mind are the 2 types of Vac jewels that could fit this model: thick-stemmed (screws directly into the cap) and thin-stemmed (screws into a slotted screw that screws into the cap). In my experience, these two are not interchangeable (even when using the slotted screw).

By the time the 3rd generation pens were being made they all were a jewel and screw.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
