Top Loose Or Not?

I discovered the top of the cap, with the image of the snow capped mountain, is loose. I can screw it tighter but only to a point where I feel tension. I would not want to strip any threads. My question is, is this normal? Does this part of the cap screw on and hold the clip?

Hopefully you can be more specific as to the model, but generally speaking newer MB pens have the top (aka derby) attached with a screw that is accessed from inside the cap. On some older models the derby screws direty onto threads integrated with the cap top.

My answer refers to fountain pens. Again, not sure what you have.

All I know about the pen, which I purchased around 1972, is possibly a model 144. I no longer have any documents pertaining to the pen and am just learning about it. I know it has a 14k nib but that is about all I can confirm. Someone, on this site wrote that it may be a 144. In any case i Looked down into the derby and did not see any screw on a flat surface which indicates to me that it is a screw on cap. I screw it on on to the first point of resistance and no more for fear of stripping the thread. It is a Meisterstuck.

Yup, just screw it back in finger tight, it shouldn't come loose.

If it turns out to be a problem (coming loose continually) you could take it off and put the tiniest drop of threadlock on the threads.

Enjoy

If it's a modern 144 (not the celluloid one) then you should be able to disassemble the cap. The 'snow flake' top gets screwed onto an 'inner cap'. Maybe the threads on that are loose. Let me know if that's the case, I have a spare.

or your generous offer. When looking down the inside of the cap I see a cylinder going about half way down the cap and turns when I turn the top with the snow mountain. For now I will just leave things as they are. I would hate to mess it up.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
