Hello All,

I have had some trouble with my Aion skipping, so I swapped it for a Safari nib. To my surprise, the ink dripped out the nib, completely draining the converter. The converter will hold water in it if filled by itself, so there is no air coming from that. When I swapped the nibs back, all is right again. Anyone heard of such a thing before?

When the Aion was released Lamy made a big deal of it being a brand new nib design - although it looks like the Safari nib superficially, they're not interchangeable. So it's not surprising unfortunately!

Might have been improper placement.

 

 

Actually I doubt Lamy would make a different type of feed just for the AION, too much logistics-problems.

So a Steel or gold nib from the other ranges should fit.

Mine swap over no problem. I swapped them back for aesthetic reasons nothing else.

I'm with the designers on this one. The new nib shape compliments the Aion body.

I changedbout my aion nib without problem. It wrote well both before and after but i wanted a stub vs the medium i had originally purchased. I wish all pens swapped out so easily.

I have used Safari nib on Aion successfully. No problem at all. Also a fellow fpn member has successfully used Lamy 14k gold nib ( the one that comes with Dialog 3) on his Aion.

OK, in looking up the reviews it does have a different feed. Honestly I like the looks of the nib that it has, and I wouldn't even consider changing it if it wasn't for the skipping that I'm getting with it. Really want to like this pen, and it has all the characteristics to be a really nice pen, but the skipping...

I regularly change nibs on my Aion, from z50, through z55 and all work fine. No feed problems at all... If anything, they run a little dry.

 

I have a stock z53 F on at the minute with Robert Oster Verde De Rio and its a cracking unit

ErrantSmudge, I soaked the feed unit in the dish soap/water mixture for 24 hours, and have since filled it with Pilot Iroshizuku, which is known for being wet. If I was into experimentation, I would have filled it with Lamy ink again, but I decided that I'd prefer just to use the pen instead. So far, so good.

I've had flow issues with Lamy Blue-Black in my 2000, but Lamy Black has been just perfect in that pen. I just mention this because some Lamy inks might be better than others in terms of flow.

Have you tried a deep flush of the pen with a mild dishsoap solution?

Always works for me.

I tend to do it to all new pens, prior to use, and leave it overnight.

What about sonic baths? You can pick them up for next to nothing these days and they save pumping surfactants into your feed

Just an FYI, when I spoke with the Lamy supplier here in Canada, they were very clear that the Aion nib is not interchangeable with the Safari/Al-star/Vista/Studio/Dialog 3/Imporium line. Others seem to have success interchanging them, but the official line here is no.

Worked fine for me. Put a zoom nib standard Lamy nib from FPnibs on and the Aion nib has been on several pens. For some reason I find the Aion nib odd. Hardly ever use.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
