Italic Nib Units For Delike And Some Moonman Pens!

My first Edge cracked and I don't want to risk putting stress on my new one by messing with the nib, so I used the same Schmidt nib unit from my LiveInYou MiTu and installed the "M" nib (1.3mm stub). I must admit that getting the nib back into the collar required more pressure than with the original nib, but not so much as to damage anything. I wrapped the nib and feed in the rubber gripping material (pictured) and pushed it in until I couldn't get it to go any further. This combination writes so smoothly and perfectly that I'm probably never going to put back the meh boring Schmidt fine nib the pen came with. This is just a lovely smooth and wet nib!

Good deal. Thanks. Great to see it working with a Schmidt nib unit!

Edit: So far no joy pairing these nibs with a Schmidt feed. Nothing but hard starts. There appears to be a gap between the feed and nib that I can't get to go away by repositioning the nib further in or out. Given a couple of hard shakes, the nib writes nicely. But stop writing and it's back to no-go until another hard shake.

Drats. These nibs are well suited for the Kaco Edge. And I have a couple to put to the task.

I've purchased both these nibs and the slightly more ornate italic nibs in the Jinhao 992. Both work well. The Jinhao 992 sells for about $1.50, (eBay USA link below) so you're basically buying the whole unit just for the nib and/or feed. While the Jinhao 992 italic nib fits the feed perfectly, and the feed keeps up with ink flow, the nib is sometimes just about a millimeter too long and strikes inside the Delike Alpha cap. The nib is long enough, though, that it can be shortened with a Dremel tool at the back end, or just clipped with diagonal cutters at the nib end, and re-ground in the method suggested in this Youtube video by Nathan Tardif. The more minimalistic italic nibs also work well, and don't have this cap-interior clearance issue.

These look interesting. And they do sell the nibs stand-alone in units of 2. I ordered a set.

I found the Delike-type nibs to be too short to work in pens like the 992, Lingmo Lorelei and an open nib Jinhao 51A I have. It looks these should work better. I look forward to trying them out.

Sorry to hear it isn't working out for you! Maybe this is another case of variability among nibs due to inconsistent manufacturing? All my nibs in this set work in my Schmidt nib units. Initially there was some difficulty getting ink down the nib, but after being charged they haven't dried up.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
