In this video I review the Airbus pen by comparing it to the 149 and the Waterman Edson:

Much enjoyed during my morning coffee, thanks!!!

I have the other two pens and enjoyed the direct comparison.

Although I sing the praises of the A380 here, I absolutely love the Edson, It was the first pen I bought for my collection back in 2002!

I have two blue and golds, one with the gold cap at the end of the barrel and one without, and the Edson LE. (I absolutely love them.)

As seen in the tests, the Edson's performance was flawless, it just doesn't have the presence that the A380 has in the hand.

As for the 149, it's an absolute classic!

The nib used in the A380 isn't a standard Montblanc nib and it seems to work very well.

I am in love! Love heavy pens. They’re so restful in the hand. That’s beautiful.

I'm in absolute agreement!

This is one pen that I would highly recommend you get your hands on if you can! (My 888's are simply dressed up 146's, but this pen is something very different!)

Your video was a treat. Thank you!!!

It was an absolute pleasure! :)

Beautiful pen! I'm guessing that the Airbus is a very expensive pen in relation to the other two pens?

There is a significant difference in price here, but it's always nice to compare apples and pears, as in my mind, it gives you a good idea as to where various items stand irrespective of price point.

Most of Montblanc's limited editions are simply "prettied up" versions of their standard pens, such as the 149, 146, Boheme, etc.., however, this pen's different, as it's not based on one of their standard models.

I happen have a Silver Fibre Guilloche 146 in my collection that outperforms both my Andrew Carnegie and the Pope Julius II 888's, proving that just because a pen's expensive, doesn't necessarily mean that it performs well. (The Airbus A380 Skeleton, however performs beautifully and I would definitely recommend this pen.)

I'll review all of my pens in due course and compare all of them as objectively as I can.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
