Which Pen And Nib For Apache Sunset

dinuraj

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I bought a bottle of Apache sunset an year back. But, I found it very watery and light on pens. I tried it on wet broad nibs and springs nibs. But, couldn't get it to make a darker reddish mark on paper.

What is that I am missing? I see beautiful write-ups with Apache sunset on FPN with their color ranging from yellow to red.

Thanks,

Dinuraj

I have found paper tends to be a big key with this ink. What paper have you been using?

I tried it on a muji notebook and on rhodia notepad. Rhodia was better. But, not upto the expectations

Rodia will work- add to the pen must lay down a lot of ink (I will use a 1.5 stub) but even then you may not get the red.I

In the end I've been less than impress by Apache Sunset. I tend to use habanero instead. No dark red, but I know what to expect.

This ink is certainly NOT for drier Japanese fine nibs.

And even in a tuned-wet Pelikan, it doesn't really write legibly enough for me.

You need to pour ink onto paper. And let it stay in place, and not distribute/scrape it away.

I really like Apache Sunset, but red is a color I have rarely seen in it. Orange yes, yellow yes, red not so much (if ever) I often use it in my TWSBI 580 B which has been stubbed.

I've had most success with a Noodler's Ahab on Oxford brand paper. Here's one I did earlier.

That is a good suggestion. Let me try it with Ahab. Thanks

I tried it on a 540 stub. It was still illegible. Let me try it in a wetter pen and on better coated paper.

I couldn't find that nib/pen yet.

Yeah the factory stub in my Eco ia very dry compared to th B in my 580 I had worked on. Wet pens seem to work best.

YES wet nibs.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
