Which Akkerman Inks To Get ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am planning to buy two small bottles (60ml) of Akkerman inks for the sake of their bottles. Can you please suggest what ink colors to get ? But, I found that the colors are not very unique and I might already have very similar colors.

The inks that I liked are

1. Hofkwartier grown ( is it like diamine meadow?)

2. Hopjesbruin (is it like diamine sepia or kwz honey ?)

3. Bekakt Haags (I used to have a sample of diamine chocolate. But done with it)

4. Blauw (think it is normal blue. I have wm Florida blue and iro ASA gao. This could complement them)

Thanks,

Dinuraj

Oranje Boven is the best.

I also liked it. But, I was trying to stay away from orange inks as I already have PR orange crush, diamine sunset and Apache sunset.

I have Voorhout Violet and Shocking Blue. Haven't used either real recently, but enjoy both.

I have bottles of Shocking Blue, Ijzer Galnoten (their iron gall ink) Rood Haags Pluche, and Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo in their regular line, and a 120 ml bottle of Stormachtig Blauw in the Dutch Masters series. I've tried several others, but haven't made up my mind as to whether I like them well enough to get a full bottle: Akkerman Blauw, Simplisties Violet, Passage Blauw and Tréves-Turquoise, plus I've just inked up a pen to try the Dutch Masters Cerulean Blauw (I still have to try the Hals Oud Bruin).

Afraid I haven't tried most of the ones you're looking at, so I can't give a lot of advice.

Obviously, it's subjective. I think their BlBl is one of the very best. I also have #9 Laan van Nieuw Oost-Indigo and Ceruleum blauw van Vermeer, and I like both of those a lot. If you are into blues, they are worth your consideration.

I have Bekakt Haags and to me it's the same or very very close to Diamine Chocolate Brown.

The Hopjesbruin is not like KWZ Honey; the latter is darker; the former is reported to be the same as Diamine Sepia.

BIBI ?

I kind of liked their blues. Found the #3 akkerman blauw to be interesting. Is it like Iro Asa Gao ? #9 is also interesting.

I liked diamine chocolate brown. So, most probably will get Bekakt Haags. Need to select one more :-) .

I am in love with #10, the iron gall blue-black. I am getting perilously close to using it exclusively. I just can't get enough of it.

One of the few Akkermans I keep inked is one you mention: "Hofkwartier Groen" —a very nice, bright yellow-green; much brighter and cheerful than Diamine Meadow. In a Pelikan M300 with medium nib, it shades beautifully.

If you are going to buy the ink for the sake of the bottles, why not just buy an empty or two. At least here in the US that's not a problem.

But what fun is that? Playing with ink and emptying the bottles on your own is much more satisfying.... B)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
