A Bit Of This And A Bit Of That..

After a bit of debating, I decided to open a thread where I would like to consolidate the pictorials of my pens, which I plan on sharing when I decide to ink them.

First up is the Scipione Borghese Patron of Art 4810. I remember being drawn to the offbeat design and the way Montblanc employed materials to keep the design 'earthy'. But most of all, I wanted it because of it being a 2017 release which is the year my little boy was born. He is almost two and already curious about my DSLRs, my fountain pens and inky fingers. I hope I can pass on some of my 'good' addictions to him.

I inked the pen yesterday. Writing samples soon.

Beautiful.

Absolutely lovely images.

This is a thread for future pleasure as your pens are such high quality.

Thank you so much for opening this thread in an impressive way.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. Beautiful pen. What lens are you using?

Also, I thought most of your pens had BB nibs. You, Tom and Ghost Plane inspired me to purchase an OBB Homer. This will be my first modern O nib.

??? I'm not aware of the context here...

Tacky was the word I was looking for. Jinhao does several slightly more affordable versions.

Great photography!

I never paid attention to this specific model as its design always appeared too „turbulent“.

Now it looks quite nice :-)

Cheers

Great photography, beautiful pen a wonderful reason to own a pen.

It certainly must add much to the pleasure of picking it up and using it.

I'm looking forward to seeing more pens in this thread.

firsts of all, let me say that you took a set of beautiful photographs. The lighting, the choice of the details, and that pic of the cap over the table and the background completely out of focus, simply great!

Secondly, the thread is a great idea, and I always thought that photographing a pen, with such a commitment, with such an effort like that you devoted to create your set, is a great way to begin "owning" it. So, I look forward to other posts from you as you will "inaugurate" new pens...

Thirdly, about the pen. It is my impression that the designers of Montblanc, independently if one eventually likes a specific pen of the Maison or not, are usually quite good in interpreting the "spirit" of the characters they honors, and their times. In this specific case, they were in my opinion almost perfect in capturing not the Roman spirit, but that particular interpretation of Roman antiquities that was so in vogue at the times of Cardinal Scipione Borghese, which eventually took is most splendid form in the work of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. A great design and a beautiful pen. Congratulations for owning it.

Thanks. I use pens from EEF to O3B in my writing. EF and OB are my favorites. This pen will probably get the OB treatment in future. I am loving the M for now, though.

Never underestimate what magic time can weave to our opinions and preferences.

It certainly is. Thanks.

I’m strangely attracted to this. More, please?

That is a surprise to me ;) I will certainly share more. Soon.

Montblanc Sakura 333.

One of my favorites. Meissen Porcelain, red gold plated fittings, hand painted cherry blossoms and MOP star are the highlights of the pen. To me, the line variation in spite of this being a M nib and the lack of metal section are the welcome bonuses.

Dated 2001. The year I entered medical school after two years of relentless work and preparation. No year has contributed more to where I stand today. It is special whenever I look at the nib.

Your most recent post is surely as good as it gets.

The luminosity of the images...the inventive composition...the tasteful pen...it's all sublime.

Thank you for sharing such a stellar fountain pen.

It's one of the highlights of 2018 in the FPN Montblanc Forum.

With Appreciation,

Tom K.

Hope the connection allows me to post this:

Never mind the Borghese, I think its gorgeous. But these pictures you have taken are AMAZING. Theyre something else, another level.

Particularly the ones taken by the window ledge. The way the light focuses on a certain point, the vividness of composition wow!

I just recently got into photography and man have I got a lot to learn from you :)

Enjoy your new pens in great health my friend.

When I become involved in fountain pens, many years ago, my tastes were quite "restricted". Anything just a bit aside black and brown pens seemed to me just extravagant, gaudy, and improbable. Frequenting pen forums broadened considerably my perception of an interesting pen, and opened my eyes to see beauty where I was used to only see "far from the rules".

A great part of this learning was due to the photograps posted by other members. These are often so much trustable, vivid, and alive, than those used in official AD, that one can recognize the passion behind them, and often the reasons of this passion.

Your photographs, Nishant, are of this kind. You are exploring with your lighting and your camera the shapes and details that make this particular pen relevant to you. In this way you are describing your vision of it, teaching the reasons of your love.

This does not mean, obviously, that others have to want the same pen, but like me they are allowed to see its beauty through your eyes: to understand it.

Thank you for your very interesting approach.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
