Kawakubo Pens

Well. I never thought Id have to do this but my experience with kawakubo pens has been one of the worst experiences Ive ever had buying a product. Maybe even the worst. To make a long story short. I ordered a $1300 dollar pen. MR kawakubo said hed have it completed in 4 months. 6 months 2 weeks later I have no pen , my pay pal protection has expired (so I cant request a refund) and now that my PayPal protection has run out he no longer responds to any of my many messages to him. Total silence. This is all after he promised me that I have nothing to worry about once my pay pal protection ends he will honor the deal. Now I feel like Ive lost out on 1300 dollars no small amount to me. I am so frustrated. This experience has almost ruined fountain pens for me. Has anyone had any communication with MR kawakubo? I find it hardly coincidental to all communication stops right after my pay pal protection ends.

I wish you the best of luck sblackers. Not to rub in the wounds, but I did manage to get a refund. This was purely the process of Paypal I imagine because Kawakubo did not respond to my Paypal claim or did I have to provide any proof of messages or anything afterwards.

I hope that’s not the case, but hope is all I can offer. As far as I can tell, comunication has never been his strong suit. Hopefully that is all is. But it does not look good.

Have you considered contacting PayPal anyway to see if there's anything they can so?

I have. They said they will do nothing after the 6 months is up. Which I think Is a bad policy. Sometimes things take longer than 6 months to make. They should have a six months after product is delivered policy.

  • 3 weeks later...

Anyone heard from mr kawakubo in the last month ? All of his social media has gone dead for about a month now. Even though he has (apparently) made off with my money I still hope he is okay. If anyone has heard from him I’d appreciate it if you’d post here. I’ve tried calling messaging and following him on social media — total radio silence. Hopefully he and his family are okay. I know they were hit with hurricanes and earh quakes over the last couple of months and I know one of the events affected him personally.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
