Real Vs. "fake" Lamy Replacement Nibs

Are all Lamy Z 50 nibs made in Germany?

More to the point, do all authentic Lamy nibs always have "Lamy" stamped on them, along with the size? For example, 1.1 or 1.5, for stubs, etc...

There seems to be alot of Lamy replacement nibs out there, with no markings on them at all.

Are those Chinese (or other) knockoffs?

I'm just curious as to people's experiences when trying to find replacement nibs.

Does it even matter, as to place (and factory) of manufacture?

Some nibs will fit a Lamy pen, but it does not mean they are made in Germany by Lamy. They are made in China for WS, Hero, Lanbitou...

Many will fit a Safari / Studio. Heck, you can even get 5 for 2 bucks with free shipping form a Chinese seller on ebay. Only thing, they will be Fine / Extra fine, and they might not be a perfect fit.

If you want nib choice, you have to get the real deal. They aren't all that expensive.

I have not looked/come across any fake ones, yet.

Probably, safe to say that the absence of a 'Lamy' and 'width' stamp would be a fake.

The only Lamy style nibs I have seen thus far were just marked 'EF' and actually for use with a Hero 359. But they were damn tight on the feeder & no way could I get the damn thing off again.

There is no way one of them is ever going to get anywhere near my Safari. They are more likely to get into the bin.

All my Safari nibs are marked 'Lamy' and the size: EF, M 1.1... I assume that they are genuine.

There have been fake Safaris with nibs being the "Lamy" inscription, so I wouldn't assume just because it says "Lamy" it's genuine. It's more a question of provenance, is the dealer who sold them to you legit.

And some older Z50 from the 80s don't have any inscription at all.

Nice to know... Come to think of it, I may have come across one or two.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
