Pen: Live in you (Liy) Mitu Blue Ocean - F nib.
Paper: Rhodia Uni
Ink: Noodler's La Couleur Royale (only there's no purple evident - I think it's a mislabelled bottle of Noodler's Blue)

:) Thanks, Tas. Thoroughly enjoyable review. If I were going to review pens, this is the sort of thing I'd shoot for (and miss). And that's a pretty nice-looking pen, too.

Great review, Tas!

I too enjoy my MiTu and lately have been using my amber colored one daily.

One complaint others have noted is that the thin section can be uncomfortable for long writing sessions, but I heard that newer models have a slightly wider section than the original. The pictures on Taobao look the same. Can anyone confirm or deny that the section width has been changed?

I'm thinking about getting another one but would prefer a wider section.

Nice review and enjoyed the doodles, LIY MITU just put their prices just above my current price threshold.

They look very nice though

They are much cheaper within country than internationally like on eBay, but still the price is a little high considering you could get a Wing Sung with 14k nib for less than the MiTu.

11/11 is the biggest shopping day of the year in China and everything goes on sale then, so it might go down to a more reasonable price for a day or two.

My Taobao shopping cart is already loaded with the pens I've been wanting through multiple sellers to see which one offers the lowest price at midnight on 11/11.

It's crazy, so many people shop at once on that moment every year that the internet in China literally breaks for a several seconds. Just imagine millions of people all trying to check out on the same app at the same time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
