I have some pens that need me to make a celluloid slurry and apply on the barrel to fill in pits.

 

But I just cannot find a source for black celluloid. I have ordered two sets of guitar picks that were supposed to be celluloid but they dont melt in acetone.

 

Any ideas on where to find the real thing? Thanks!

I dont have any donor pens. Are there no other sources out there?

Most of the stuff out there today is cellulose acetate. Vintage pens are nitro cellulose which is close, but different.

If you're careful you might be able to scrape enough from the inside of the barrel where it's thickest to repair the pen with its own celluloid. I've done that on one pen that needed a small crack filling, but it will obviously depend on how thick the walls are. I scraped a few slivers off with a dental pick. If you need more than that... hm, I don't have any great ideas.

Too many pens, too little time!

An FPN member saw my post and sent me some spare barrels all the way from the US to INDIA, at zero cost to me.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
