Collectible Stars

Any new insights as to why the volume 2 of this book isn't out yet? I've found out that nibs.com are selling the volume 1 at half price for this week/end only. But since I don't plan on collecting vintage stars, I don't find this book of much interest (for me at least). I'm more interested with pens from the late 70's-present. So any of you collectors out there, this might be a good buy for you. The prohibitive cost of shipping this book to Australia has added to my "not interested binge buy", but knowing the sheer weight and size of this, I understand as to why it would be expensive. Plus I don't exactly intend to get surprised if a GST were added when it comes to Australian shores as I've noticed that most of the merchandise coming from the US at ebay has the GST included.

The titles of these books cause some confusion: I guess you bought the 2003 published book "MONTBLANC Collectible Stars 1947-1979"?

To my knowledge, the long time awaited book "MONTBLANC Collectible Star 2" is not yet available, if it ever will. It is also not listed on Stefan Wallrafen's website:

But I bought CS II about a month ago from Stefan?

I talked to Stefan and Jens at the Hamburg "Pen Port" on the 3rd of October. Jens Rösler is still working on the text for the second CS book and the printing hasn't started, so you couldn't have bought it a month ago. Show us a picture of the book and we can tell you what you've bought. ;)

I just cannot upload pics - FPN has been impossible to open and browse this week.

Anyway, joss is correct, it seems I mistakingly bought this book thinking it is CS II. I shall be waiting for the release of the actual vol. 2, along with you guys.

Hmmm I did find it strange that the book only covers up to 1979 of pens when i distinctly recall that it would have pens until the late 80's. But it's nice to know that this book will be available someday. I hope they've got some POA's and WE's included.

Thank you all for the information.

Hi Michael

I hope you could give us an update when it finally gets released.

Many thanks,

The new book is being worked on at the moment. Just talked to Stefan about it a few weeks ago :-)

Cheers

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
