Some days ago my new Pelikan Souveraen M1000 arrived.

I´m very impressed by this pen. A beautiful and very smooth B-nib. The writing is outstanding, the pen is performing very well and ink comes pretty "fat".

Compared to my Montblanc Meisterstueck 149 I prefer writing with the Pelikan.

A pen of this size is not for me, but Ingolf, your photos are faboo! This is what Pelikan needs to do to help us addicts determine if their offerings will satisfy our cravings. Why can't they figure this out? Save the glam pics for the catalog and the website, but give us hard core buyers clear, well lit pics which will help us make informed choices. Don't hide the wares, show them proudly!

Ink coming out fat can have two reasons, one a wetter ink, in Pelikan pens are made wet for the dry 4001 Pelikan inks.

Some 1000's are semi-flex, that could be a reason. Semi-flex is a wetter nib.

My 1005 is regular flex OBB and being a later than '97 pen, is wider than the 'pre'98 ones. I won at the same live auction a pre'97 OBB 600 and that nib is @ 1/2 a width narrower than the 1005.

Think that is normal in the pre'98 nibs are in both semi-vintage and vintage @ 1/2 a width narrower.

I was very surprised that the 1005 didn't quite feel as big as I'd expected, nor quite as clunky.

Due to my way of holding a fountain pen, forefinger up, I'll either have to get use to using it posted, letting it rest deep in the web of my thumb or switch back to tripod....in forefinger up is great for posted standard or medium-large pens, but un-posted Large and over sized pens feel a bit short.

I found the broad nib to be too broad and wet so I changed the nib for a medium which was much more to my taste. The M1000 is a superb pen.

This is beautiful! May we have a look at how it writes please? :)

Here it is ... (sorry my writing has to be improved  ).

Paper is a Leuchtturm 1917 notebook and as ink I use Diamine Presidential Blue (one of my favourites).

Great pics! Love the pen but it's that nib that steals the show. Nothing in Pelikan's modern line-up compares to the spring and fun of writing with one, IMHO.

:headsmack:I've not stopped to admire my fancy. two toned nibs of my 'new' 1005 and small 600 enough, nor my medium-large 605.

Most of my Pelikans are monotone.

Thanks for the nib pictures.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
