Found New Snorkel Needs Nib

Was at an antique fair this past weekend and a guy had a Snorkel he was selling for $5. Why? Because there's no nib. I think the guy sells those for melt value (unbelievable! Really!)

Anyway, pics don't show it, but the feed is cracked. Body isn't. Probably need to resac it too. Anyway, I was thinking of looking for a new feed/nib for it. Maybe find an oddball feed/nib to put on it somewhere. Just wanted to share some pics. Also not seen this particular shade of green before. Also got an old Eversharp, but that one has a broken nib on it. Be posting a pic in that forum too.

I know!

He was willing to sell me some other pens with broken nibs for "melt value." I almost did, but I really did not want the others.

Does this take a conical nib? I have some of them, from Snorkels and a Touchdown Imperial.

This is a Statesman or a Clipper so either a two-tone gold Triumph nib or a palladium silver Triumph nib would be correct. You shouldn't have any difficulty finding a replacement Snorkel nib-feed part that will screw right into your existing section.

These pens look so nice with color-matched sections like you have here.

The color looks like Sage green to me.

White dot = Triumph style nib. The nib from a TD Imperial won't fit this nib assembly. Its much too short.

I was going to say it looks like a sage pen as well. You just made a bunch of people hate you.

What's a Sage pen?

And I think it is supposed to be conical as well. It does have the white dot and there's nothing here that leads me to believe the cap doesn't go to this pen originally.

I think Ron Zorn meant sage green, the color.

I just had to google that specific color. Yup. That's a match. And apparently it is a bit rare; no wonder I had trouble finding what it was :)

Cool.

Now to get a nib and feed.

Pajaro, I'll PM you within the next couple days to talk about a nib :)

The nibs I have:

fpn_1537398357__img_20180919_190355.jpg

Left is from a Snorkel, two tone. Whole section.

Center is a vac fill pen, needing restoration. Two tone gold, but probably too big.

Right is a gold monotone nib only, unknown origin.

If you want any of these, I'll send them to you. No charge. I don't want anything for them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
