Pens And Nibs And Ink; Oh Visconti

I just died and went to heaven. Do you know if there is a fp body that looks like this, but, ahem, doesnt cost V style pricing?

I love the look of this body it sort of reminds me of the FPR orange Himalayan I recently received that is acetate. I really like this look. Alas, I am a neophyte fp user and not up to the hundreds of dollars for a fp ... yet.

The Monteverde "Mountains of the World" collection might be in the same general ballpark of design, but with one color on the pen more dominant than the Visconti design.

If that's orange and green, look for Noodlers pens in "emeralds on the sun" acrylic. Pretty stuff. My Neponset is in that colorway, and I like it a lot!

Do these pens have hard starts? Like you ink it, leave it untouched for a week, suddenly you feel like writing, and it doesn't write?

A shot glass of water near by...if the water evaporates before you use the pen...sigh, it's time to go to ball points.

...Get two-three more fountain pens.....better paper, a selection of inks....so you can upgrade your 8 color crayon box. Snobbie nosed, I have a full 64 crayon box my self.......(.missing all sorts of smilies...grumble squared.)

If you have a few fountain pens and inks; the 'work' of writing that is buried deep in your mind from being a slave of a ball point all your life...is removed....fun time...I can scribble...anything....at any time..........even if it's just looking at the same ink on three colors of paper. The 'artistic' side has cracked sleep encrusted eyes.

A dip in a shot glass, gets the ink going.

I often have 17 pens inked so some are going to need a kick start, I have an old postal sponge in a rubber cup, that I wet every 3-4 days that does the trick.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

The cheapest lessons are from those who learned expensive lessons. Ignorance is best for learning expensive lessons.

I have more than 17 pens inked and don't need a kick start.

I am asking a simple question, does this pen have hard starts or not

Gotcha. Thanks.

This is a visconti steel nib. it shouldn't have the hard starting problem that is endemic to their palladium nibs. I don't know why, but visconti steel nibs are highly praised.

That said, I'd go for an acrylic penBBS pen. Pick a style you like, they come in absolutely stunning acrylics for under $20 and are pretty universally loved nibs.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
