M800 Stone Garden

BillH

Recommended Posts

Just received an email from LcDC announcing the new Pelikan M800 Stone Garden, available mid-October. First impression, it wasn't what I had imagined but it is still a lovely pen. Second impression, I'm a little leery of Pelikan's studio photos so not sure of the colors... orange and blue? orange and black? What do YOU think? Will you be grabbing this one?

Fritz Schimpf's post out in the Mall says it is "blue resin". Well now, that's different.

Sensational, particularly the dark blue resin. This could be my favourite Pelikan for a very long while...

The colour scheme looks like my Sheaffer Balance SE Aspen. (Sorry for the gloomy photos. The Aspen colours are actually warm). Not thrilled with the Stone Garden. May consider if it comes in blue resin as indicated above.

It's lovely, and as noted above, looks quite similar to the Sheaffer Balance II Aspen.

I'm definitely interested in this one. I always loved the Balance II Aspen, but I was wary of the pen spontaneously combusting, as the fancier Balance IIs tended to do.

I've lost track of how many SEs Pelikan has put out this year. :)

Looks nice. Like the blue cap, section and blind cap. Will have to see in person to see if design goes all the way around. Too many cases lately where the rich colors on new Pelikans are only visible in one view of the pen and on the rest of the body they are too muted to see.

That picture looks VERY strange. The pen is slightly out of focus and appears to have been photoshopped into the backdrop. Hmmm...

I don't think it is an official advertisement, the quality of the layout is so low.

You are right, out focused and bad PS technique.

Couldn't afford the Conway Stewart, won't this one either. Some real pretty 800's lately.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

I concur. The way this pen is made seems to mimic the way they made the Renaissance Brown though...if that's the case, the colors should be throughout the whole pen.

I see The Writing Desk are listing it for £534.

That is quite a leap for an M800 SE, isn't it? About £150 up on the Ocean Swirl and Renaissance Brown. Making dark blue resin must be more expensive than anyone thought ...

I think it looks stunning. I can see how some people would think the combination is a bit busy though. Reminds me of my favorite CS material as well, Autumn Flake, and the Omas Saffron blue. The M800 is prob too big for me, but may have to seriously consider it as my first M800.

Here's a higher res picture from The Pelikan Perch:

I didn't notice the resin being blue, but that would be a nice addition to the pen. Like most recent Pelikan releases, I'll probably wait to see real world photos before buying, but will probably buy regardless.

I wish they could find a way to take pictures of pens without the huge bars of "glare" running the length of the pen...really visually distracting when you're trying to look intently at the pattern on the binde. I get that they want it to appear glossy smooth and pristine, but geez...

Voiced my thoughts exactly.

it looks really nice with the blue resin, for a change.

The problem with these images is that very probably they are computerized, so it may not be the real pen, but possibly 3D rendering, and we have to wait an see until ordinary photos come out.

It is the nature of shiny objects to reflect light. It'll reflect light on your desk as well. Photos without light, on the other hand, would make it even harder to see.

The lighting gives the pen a three dimensional quality, no? Can you hear it calling you? "Buy me, buy me." It's working!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
