So Cal Pen Club Saturday September 29, 12-3Pm

Our next meeting will be “Pen Swap Meet” day at the Fountain Pen Shop! Want to grow your collection? Come on down! Want to thin your collection? Come on down!

Bring the pens you no longer love or no longer use. We can have a "Feeding Frenzy" right at the Fountain Pen Shop.

This will be a great place for pen hunting without going to Yard Sales or Pen Shows.

And, of course, pizza as always. Please bring drinks in single serving containers.

I just put my name on your mailing list. I'm in South OC and hope you have some meetings down this way.

PM me MHBru. I'm in Newport Beach. Would be nice to meet a local pen friend

This will be my first meetup other than the one Brian Goulet had at the SF pen show. Looking forward to it!

Just a quick bump to remind everyone that the meeting is next weekend!

The plan is to turn the meeting into a pen swap meet, so bring pens to sell or trade, working or not!

Our next club meeting will be at the Fountain Pen Shop, on September 29th . For those of you that do not know, the shop is at 2640 South Myrtle Avenue, Unit 12 in Monrovia, CA 91016. If you get lost, you can call 626.294.9974 for guidance.

We are going to start with what we hope will become an annual tradition of having a “pen swap meet.” Have you changed your pen collecting focus and wish to unload pens? Bring them. Still to expand your collection? Maybe a club member will bring just what you are looking for. Having a problem identifying a pen? Bring it with you.

The meeting will be from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Please bring snacks and/or drinks in single serving containers to share. The club will be buying mass quantities of pizza.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
