Hello From Sweden

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

I'm Mattias, a new member, and I live in Sweden. I am an artist, webdeveloper, husband and father.

I use fountain pens for writing of course, but my main use of them is for drawing. I care mostly bout the functionality - how do they work for me in drawings (even though I like when pens look good too). I guess that makes me a user rather then a collector? I probably use the nibs reversed a lot more then the avarage user, when I want thinner lines, haha. I drool over nice looking inks I see on Instagram, but then ending up using a permanent black in my drawings anyway ;) I use different ink colours when I write though.

I also use dip pens, glass pens and brushes. Currently I'm looking in to try technical pens (Rotring Isograph, Steadtler Mars Matic and such). As an artist have also worked in a lot of other techniques through the years - oils, acrylics, watercolours, airbrush, digital, pencil and so on.

Pens

My fountain pens at the moment: TWSBI Diamond 580 (F), Platinum Carbon Deskpen (EF), Sailor Fude de mannen 40º, Lamy Safari (M), Rotring Artpen (2.3mm), Jinhao x750 (M), Jinhao x450 (fude), Jinhao x450 (B), Jinhao x450 (M).

Inks

Favorite inks for Drawing: Platinum Carbon black, Pelikan Fount India
Other inks I use: Pelikan 4001 Türkis, Diamine Ancient Copper, Diamine Autumn Oak, Diamine Ruby, Diamine Oxblood, Diamine 150:th A. Regency blue, Diamine Registrars Blue-black, Pelikan 4001 Königsblau, Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Schwarz
+ some "non fountain pen friendly" inks I use for dip pens.

If one wants to see my images my instagram is @wirfi (but later on I will try to post something on the board for photos I saw in here).

Hello Mattias and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Thanks for the welcome :)
Hey, a question. I don't see much drawings made with fountain pens shared in the forum. That seams weird to me. I was thinking to share some of mine... Maybe I could start a thread in the Pictures-forum. Or maybe there's some department for Art that I've missed? ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
