I saw a notice somewhere about a small pen show in Tilburg, NL on Sept 29th and I think I'll go. Very hard to find info about it, though. What can I expect in terms of items on offer etc? Thanks!

I expect la Couronne will be there (Tilburg being their home town).

Other than that: I'm interested too. Only new or also used/vintage? Any nibmeisters? Conid present?

I've also asked around on the FPN Facebook page and learned that there will be around 35 tables, the admission price is the regular museum fee and opening times are 10am to 4pm. A colleague who has been there before tells me that a lot of vendors take off early, so the main action is probably from 10am to 1pm or something like that.

I will be there for our 4th year exhibiting at the show.

I will have an extensive selection of pens available (both modern and vintage)

It is a terrific little show. I am sure you will find something to excite you !

It is normally a whole tour, it starts in Tilburg, next day Brussels, then Hamburg (Oct 3rd) and following Sunday London... all very well organized shows... if you have not been there you should...

And thanks for the images Michael R. they show all aspects...

I will have a table at the pen show tomorrow to offer my nib services there. I'm the official nib specialist at Appelboom Pennen and have been offering my services at a bunch of previous dutch pen events.

I'm thinking about going tomorrow. It will be my first pen event and in fact I hope to purchase my first fountain pen there. I'm not really sure about what to expect, but I do have a general idea of what I'm looking for. Would it be possible to find a nice pen with a sub 200 euro budget at a pen show or are they only for high end prices? I looked up a few pictures of the pen show from previous years and only saw pens in the 500 euro range, not what I'm looking for nor what I'll be able to afford.

I haven't been there before so I can't tell, but if it's a premium-collector event with only very expensive pens, then my visit will be brief.

The same here, maybe we will run into eachother. Do you have any idea what a good price is for a Parker Vacumatic? I have only been able to find US prices myself. Not anything in Europe to compare it with.

I hope to make it next year. Wasn't able to drive out today unfortunately.

Do that. It will be at a different location next year (don't know where myself), but it's quite small, but enough to see and I actually like that since it gives you more of an overview and less chance to getting lost between all the trays of pens. I'm very new, barely know what I'm doing, but I was able to find a pen that I really like and from looking around quite a few others did the same. So if you are close-by, then I would recommend coming next year.

I saw your post too late, BinaryRun. Sorry about that. Perhaps next year?

On the plus side... the atmosphere was nice. Mostly friendly folks and a relaxed vibe. There were enough rare pens there that almost anyone would have been able to find something suitable. It was also nice to see Anabelle doing nib work. I think she had a busy day!

Some things that I personally didn't like that much... a lot of the tables were geared towards serious collectors, with ditto prices. Some tables had ink and paper ready to try pens, others didn't (simply because they cater to collectors who don't really write with their pens). A lot of serious prices, as well. In terms of inks and paper on offer, I had hoped for more.

I know pretty much nothing about vintage pens, and my goal was to acquire one or two nice vintage pens, in perfect working order, for a reasonable price. I succeeded, but it wasn't easy. In the end I found the small table of Carneil Pens from Scotland and immediately struck up a report with the owner. Here I found a ca. 1960 Sheaffer PFM-3 14k 'snorkel filler' in a very nice blue colour, which appears sky-blue in bright light and a dark cobalt-blue in darker conditions. I also found a wonderful ca. 1938 Onoto 5601 in 'Green Marble' with a no.3 standard nib, which appears to be a vac filler. The celluloid of this pen is something else... My son also hit the jackpot at this table, acquiring a lever-filler De La Rue / Onoto in the most stunning brown-flaked celluloid. The photo was made under poor lighting and it doesn't do the pens justice at all, I'll post a better one tomorrow.

I also discovered KWS inks and fell in love with their Azure #5 - what a lovely ink! It went into the Sheaffer. My green-flaked Onoto was filled with J. Herbin Lierre Sauvage and its a great match. My son's brown-flaked pen was filled with Diamine Ancient Copper.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
