Very Thin Review Of Wing Sung 238

If all your pens are too fat and you want one about the girth of a pencil then here is the fountain pen for you. This came as part of a lot of ten old Wing Sung NOS pens from jewelrymathematics on eBay at a cost of about $2.50 per pen. The nib looks similar to that used in the WS 500 and 333 but writes closer to medium. Like those nibs it arrived toothy but can be smoothed. I won't say much because the thinness will either be just what you want or a deal breaker. An annoyance is that the trim rink between barrel and section is loose and tends to fall off and the tip of the barrel is a trim bit that likes to unscrew itself and get lost.

I have since found the tip of the barrel that fell off and got lost, only to find that it needs to screw into a plug in the end of the barrel, and that plug has fallen out. Meanwhile, the trim ring on the second pen has indeed fallen off and gotten lost. It looks like I will be able to assemble one complete pen from the two I have, but three parts falling off two pens is not a good record.

A positive thing I have notices in using it is that it holds quite a bit of ink for such a skinny pen. The ink tank is close to full size and barely fits in the barrel.

Bob, it's so nice to read your insights, observations and experiences. They are practical, earthy and direct. You are definitely no "shill" for inexpensive pens.

Rather a wonderful resource and informed pen person.

Thank you so much...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
