Penbbs 469 - First Pictures

The first pictures of the new PenBBS 469 have been posted on their Instagram account. (Link)

Rather nice acrylic, apparently called Moon River.

As you can see it's a double ended pen, with two eye-droppered chambers. I'm not sure what to think about this, but it's good to see more and more innovation coming from the Chinese pen industry.

Double-ended fountain pen. Interesting idea, but I don't know if I'd ever want to buy one myself...

But I like the fact that they bypassed the issue "it's only half a pen so it won't hold a lot of ink" by making it an eyedropper. That's a clever solution.

Hmmm... wonder how is the refilling mechanism would be like.

Nice touch making the barrel a demonstrator.

It looks like a double-eyedropper to me.

Double ended pens are NOT chinese innovation. My double ended custom pen (very similar to the one shown.. different blank of course) is approx 5 years old. And even before that.. Most custom makers I know, have done a double ended pen at one time or another.

Mine has a M nib on one side and a Broad on the other.

I didn’t say they'd invented it. I said it was a bit of innovation.

I'm sure custom pen makers have made this sort of thing but this is the first time I've seen a more mainstream pen manufacturer make one. And I'm not aware of an of the big brands making them at the moment? There's very little that is ever entirely new in the fountain pen world, but its innovative of them to bring something like this to market. That's the point I was trying to make.

Apologies if I came across too abrupt. English is my fourth language and tone is something I still struggle with (in my writing and in what I read). You used the word "innovation" and "China" and I just wanted to clarify that this particular model is not new.

I do like what Penbbs is doing with colourfull acrylics.

No need to apologise! I should have phrased the original post better. I suppose what I was trying to say is that it's good to see a Chinese pen manufacturer doing something different.

And your English is excellent, by the way.

Yeah, I think it will be eyedropper from the looks of it

Yes, it is an eyedropper. The pen is already a tad long with the two inkwells inside. Fitting two converters would make it even longer.

Wow ... I saw this pen on ebay this morning and now it's gone. I think everyone is excited to try this interesting pen out.

There is no way we can get this... they put up like 2 pens.. of course they are gone.

I saw this a couple hours after it appeared on Penbbs' Taobao storefront. My initial reaction was, "Seriously, you're going to make a two-headed pen instead of improving and re-releasing the vacumatic 348?!?" Perhaps they knew Wing Sung had beat them with the 601 and didn't even bother.

2/3 in quantities? I think PenBBS themselves are not sure whether to mass produce this pen or not.

Judging by the quick sold out, I guess they will have the guts to mass produce it now

I think 5 were released on eBay, and there were slightly more than 20 available on Etsy when I looked. (I didn't get one. I think it's a cool design, but it's not for me.) They lasted about an hour and a half.

They've said there are more in production already and will be released by the end of the month, but I don't know if it's the same colour or a different one.

I'd rather have the windowed Wing Sung 601 than the 348 I saw in any colour, frankly, but that's just me.

Gotcha, what was the released price?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
