Pencil Journalling

The Caran d'Ache Fixpencils (or Ecridor ) in 2mm are great lead holders - have a few with the Ecridor in my pocket right now. Also the Caran lead for 2mm are easy to purchase in a wide range of harness.

I love pencils! I use a Graf von Faber-Castell Perfect Pencil for my diary and carry a second one (a PP Magnum) for my notes always with me. I use a third one for my organizer.

I love the scent of wood when I sharpen them. The sound of my handwriting is totally different than writing with a pen, too.

For many of us there can't be enough fountain pens. For me there is always a good reason (i.e. a mostly imagined purpose :-)) to buy another Perfect Pencil. I have one pen in permanent use, two or three just for the fun of having them (I really enjoy the perfect beauty of excellent pens). But for everyday use it is always a GvFC pencil that gives me the feeling of luxury when writing.

Cheers, Stefan

I don't journal with pencils, but I do use my Berol Turquoise lead holder (and its Staedtler-Mars equivalent) for drawing.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Just this morning I was looking at Caran D'Ache Fixpencils trying to decide which to get. 2mm or 3mm. Also have a Pentel 205 that I use for writing in book margins. Looking for something sturdier for occasional journaling. Having no experience with either I'm tending towards 2mm.

2mm is a good middle of the road. 3 is bordering on sketch pencil. Make sure you have a sharpener, though. lead holders beyond 0.9 tend to get ENORMOUS flat spots.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

my 2mm Fixpencil is great for writing, the extra benefit is the cap the covers the lead chamber is also a decent lead sharpener. I got the 884, which has a textured grip area, but otherwise is identical to the other models. Very sturdy...

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! Please PM me!For Sale: TBA

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
