Who Makes The Moonman M2 Fountain Pen?

Saw a review on YT, had to get one. I’d had so-so luck with a jinhao 159; pretty good writer, section cracked out of the blue, converters flimsy and ineffectual. I know that people howl about other models, and about wing sung and hero...how great they are.

the moonman m2 seems to be a different critter from other chinese pens in that it is not an “homage” pen design, but rather something their own. this is exciting to me. I have mad admiration for the chinese culture, art and history, and while I don’t expect them to start whippin’ out pens that look like jade dragons (though that would be very cool) I’ve long hoped they’d come up with their own aesthetic...seems they have.

the m2 reminds me somewhat of either the FC 66 or the ASA Nauka, yet different from both.

Anyone know who actually makes this item? goog turned up nothing for me.

I ordered one yesterday..an extra-fine. should be here in about 10 days. $13, free shipping. holy cow!

The company is moonman. They were formerly "Lecai" but there became a HUGE number of counterfeit lecai eyedroppers, so the factory changed their brand.

The M2 is a damn nice eyedropper pen. I love the EF nib.

There are a TON of really good chinese pens out there. You just need to look at the price range over $8 USD. Wing sung has a ton, the 601 is a parker 51 vacumatic knockoff that is every bit as good as the original (with some nib options too) the 698 is a terriffic piston filler.

Moonman has a couple real winners and a couple kinda-duds. The parker 45 clone M80 isn't as great as the M2 or the wancai mini, which are both extremely high quality eyedroppers

I recommend you look at the wancai mini next, You can put a kaweco sport clip on it and it fits securely.

Also for consideration, the wing sung 601 is getting pretty much universal acclaim. The delike alpha is like the kaweco sport brass, but with genuine improvements in a few places (it takes modern full sized converters and the nib QC is arguably better)

You can find separate bent and fude nibs along with the rear piston/sac disassembly tool for a few bucks. I put the second smallest "bent" nib into all of mine.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
