How Come The 90Th Anniversery Mbs Get No Respect?

As a new Montblanc collector/user, I am initially focused on the Anniversery pens and 146s in particular. I had to pay more than a grand to buy a 75th Anniversery 146. It is a nicely fancy rendition of a 146 with great looking nib and the diamond. I later bought a 147 used 75th for less than $500, but its a cartridge pen although pretty. So this weekend I was on Ebay and bought a NEW 90th Anniversery 146 for a bit over $500. For 3 days no one showed any interest. Why??

75th anniversary pens did not get nearly as much love when they came out. The passage of time, even thought not a lot, has made them feel more scarce and desirable.

The 75th anniversary pens are more distinctive vs the standard edition in my opinion so that makes them stand out more. Also the LE pens have those great MOP stars which make all the difference to me.

The 90th pens are ok, but not much different than standard. Plus rose gold was added to the regular 149 line right after which undercut some.of the specialness. And some people did not like the big 90 on the nib. The 75th nib was more elegant and intricate to my eyes.

The anniversary pens never turned my crank.

Not even the 100th anniversary one with the piece of Montblanc granite made into a cap??

+1

That being said, the 90th Skeleton is an all time favorite of mine.

It is noteworthy to remark that the inverse of 90 is 06. Montblanc thought it was clever, signifying 1906 for Meisterstuck.

But the pens came out in 2014 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Meisterstuck line that was founded in 1924.

i think you are starting to get into crazy conspiracy theory numbers now Pravda. ;)

Correct, to the best of my knowledge.

And I think Uncial got it right.

90th is perhaps a bit of a non number for an anniversary.....perhaps.

I can't think of any 90th anniversary of significance.

It has a hint of impatience. Why not just wait ten years and go the whole hog?

Not denigrating the pen, just the pomp behind it.

Enjoy.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
