Hi From North Carolina Usa

I've only been aware of the modern pen world for a couple of years. My Mom passed away several years ago and while packing up her belongings I discovered her old fountain pens in a box - one of which I learned to write cursive style with in the early '60s - a Wearever! I cleaned a couple, ordered some cartridges and found I loved writing with a FP again. :)

It wasn't until 2016 though that I bought my first modern pen. I live in North Carolina, just a couple of hours away from Raleigh, home to Franklin-Christoph. I found out about them when I Googled 'fountain pens'. And of course after that I found about the whole world of pen addicts out there too!

My first F-C pen was their Model 28 Libertas in engraved rhodium, and I won a lovely Model 66 in Antique Glass resin from them in an IG contest. Also have a Monteverde Invicia, a Waterman, Lamy Safari and my latest purchase *just because* :) a TWSBI GO!

I am so overwhelmed with all the choices of pens it is hard for me to choose my next one! Although the larger older companies have nice pens I am drawn to the small batch makers more and more. My next pen will likely be another FC.

I loved finding this community of pen enthusiasts, nice to *meet* all of you, would love to hear back from anyone in southeast NC, I live in Wilmington,

Bye for now,

Ann

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. East Carolina or West Carolina BBQ?

Haha! My hubs would say East for sure ... I don't eat pig but I do love the fish I catch out of the sea here off the coast! :)

Hello Ann and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Hello, Ann, and welcome! Thank you for sharing. Franklin-Christoph is indeed amazing, and I'm glad your interest in fountain pens has been rejuvenated.

Welcome home KittyAnnArt. Fountain pens are wonderful, and lead to new friends if you are lucky enough to have a pen club nearby.

We’ll be thinking of you as well as all our Pen community members in the path of Hurricane Florence.

Hello Ann. I'm in Raleigh. Hope you stay safe in the storm.

I assume as much for other people

Than the sound of life’s sweet bells

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
