Need Advice - Looking For Study Graduation Pen

Hello fountain pen addicts,

I'm looking for a pen for finishing my studies. I'm really undecided. At the moment I have 4 pens in mind. These are Peggy Guggenheim 4810, Copernicus 4810, Gaius Maecenas 4810 and the Moon Pearl. They are all pretty in their own way and I can not decide which I like most. That's why I'm here to ask you about your thoughts. Maybe you can tell me what speaks for or again one pen. I think this will help me a lot.

Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards

For my money the moon pearl is the most special of the pens. I love raden and it is a large pen overall. You also get a simple and useful pen rest for your desk.

Next would be the Copernicus because of the mother of pearl star.

The other two have their own charms nor meant for me.

Congratulation on your graduation. What are you studying? I'd get the Gaius Maecenas 4810.

Thank you! I am studying informatics. Thanks for sharing the decision you would make. The Gaius is really a special pen which looks so bright. Most of the other pens are more darker ones. And the clip with the sword is just wow.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have never seen a moon pearl in person, well, I have never seen any of these four pens in person. I wonder if the pen looks mostly dark and if the raden colors only appear when the pen is under the correct light. But I feel the nib could have been a more special one instead of the classical single tone 146 nib.

Speaking about the nib, the Copernicus is the complete opposite. I really like the two tone nib with the sun but I don‘t know if the pen overall could be a bit to „boring“ because it’s just a brownish pen with some silver rings. But somehow I still like the pen.

I am so confused ..

The Copernicus is not brown at all. It is more a dark greend and the sections between silver rings are ridged with additional, subtle rings. Perhaps better photos would help.

Here is a review from FPN on the pen:

The nib on the moon pearl looks too small to me compared to the girth of the pen. That is what held me back on a purchase so far.

Here is a review with good photos, including the pen rest:

I polished the cap on Gaius, and love how it looks.

@Zaddick: thank you for the links to the reviews of this two pens. Now I think, that the Moon Pearl is a bit overpriced for being a Solitaire-like pen without a special nib design. And I understand what you mean when you speak about the too small looking nib..

@Reed_thoughts: thank you for these beautiful pictures! What do you think, which one of the two you own would you buy when you were in this situation? Or would you prefer another one instead of Peggy or Gaius? What are your experiences with these pens? Maybe you could tell a bit about your feelings with the pens?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
