Mint Blanc Boutique, Birmingham

Recommended Posts

Ive just been in the MB boutique in Birmingham and it has shrunk to a very small area indeed. I called in to look at the 2018 Writers Edition but they didnt have the fountain pen in store - except they did have the limited edition one. I must have spent thousand of pound in this boutique over the years including several writers editions. I guess Im going to have to go to that London if I want to see it before I buy. Very disappointing trip 😩

Indeed. I probably have more in my collection than they had on display in the boutique

I bought my Cervantes WE fountain pen from a department store inside the Trafford Centre in Manchester. Not sure what it was called. Do they no longer sell Montblanc pens, based on your location this would be far more convenient than going to London?

The Brum store has never been large but they've served me well over the last 10 or so years. As they know I will purchase the new WE pen each year they automatically order it in for me and then tell me when it is available to purchase/collect. Did you ask them if they could order one for you to review?

My Collection: Montblanc Writers Edition: Hemingway, Christie, Wilde, Voltaire, Dumas, Dostoevsky, Poe, Proust, Schiller, Dickens, Fitzgerald (set), Verne, Kafka, Cervantes, Woolf, Faulkner, Shaw, Mann, Twain, Collodi, Swift, Balzac, Defoe, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Saint-Exupery, Homer & Kipling. Montblanc Einstein (3,000) FP. Montblanc Heritage 1912 Resin FP. Montblanc Starwalker Resin: FP/BP/MP. Montblanc Traveller FP.

Hi Brandon, I have always had excellent service at the Birmingham boutique. It has, as you say, always been small but it seems to have shrunk since last I was there. No doubt they could order one in if I asked them. The department store in the Trafford Centre would likely be John Lewis or Selfridges whom I have bought from in the past. The standard of customer service in Brum seems to have declined since a certain lady member of their team, whose name I cannot remember, moved on.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
