Need Replacement Nib For Waterman Apostrophe

Coachbob

Recommended Posts

The nib on this pen struck the floor with enough force that I can't get it back to where it will properly write.

I measured the nib at 25.8 mm in length, 7 mm at the shoulders, and 4.6 mm at the opposite end that goes into the section.
Is this enough information to identify a replacement nib?
I've seen the Apostrophes on ebay for around a C note, but I think I paid just over 1/2 that originally.
If I do find a replacement, is it worth the bother and/or expense to change it out?
It's a friction mounted nib.
I did bend the nib back to shape, but the tines are too far apart and it writes "wet".
Hopefully the attached pictures will help.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Bob

That nib soesn't look in too bad a shape and no sign of anything seriously broken. I'd send the nib and pen to somebody like Danny Fudge and ask him if it can be made all betterer.

Thanks, Jar. I just took pics and emailed him about it. Better pics than those above.

But with the nib being a "friction fit", it might be cheaper to replace it, provided I can find something of the same size.

I don't think it would be too difficult to improve it. Maybe all you need is to get a brass shim in-between the tines and pull the tine one way or the other until they are properly straightened up. Then push them together again in the centre.

I've seen You Tube videos on how to do this, and have tried it myself with great success.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
