Bigidesign Tiarto/uniball Signo 0.28

I said I'd share my thoughts on this pen and now that I've had it a while, I feel like I can give it a fair review. It was NOT "love at first write" - I swore off ballpoints and rollerballs a few years back and, other than a quick note here and there I was unaccustomed to using them, and this pen is HEAVY. However circumstances made it so that a ballpoint/gel was the best choice for day to day writing. I had already bought two TiArtos as gifts for friends, and wanted one myself, so it was the natural choice for me.

Its main selling point is that it accepts any refill- this means that, 30 years from now when the available refill options are possibly vastly different then they are today, I should theoretically still be able to use the pen (nothing like having a great pen that you can't use because it's become obsolete right?)

It took me a while to get used to it, but now that I am used to it, I am honestly excited to pull it out and write with it (in fact I love it so much now that I have relegated my EDC Sailor to home use, which is pretty amazing, although I rarely have need of a pen outside of work so it makes sense not to carry a fountain pen every day.)

One thing that took me entirely too long to figure out is that the tip length matters, especially with the superfine Japanese refills- they require a high angle to write smoothly and consistently (which of course makes sense- the tip is so small that if you tilt the pen too much you're no longer hitting the ink ball.) It's adjustable, so you can set it to your preference. The clutch mechanism works perfectly and holds the refill securely.

Good review! I really, really like the Ti Arto, although I admit that it hasn't seen much use (I got it right as the fountain pen bug hit). I think your post is going to push me to test some refills for use at work.

Thank you for the review. I have a Karas that uses Pilot G2s and though it is heavy, I LOVE it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

This pen is heavier than my Kara's Starliner (titanium is heavier than aluminum).

I would love a Kara's pen if they reliably took uniball signo refills. That's personal preference really. I don't play well with G2s.

Wow, that is heavy.

It really is. I got used to it though. I hadn't consistently written with something that wasn't a fountain pen in years, so it took longer than it might have otherwise.

I really love that I can use any refill I want.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
