Some pictures of my 2016 Pelikan 120, and my dad's 120 from around 1955. Cool to compare these!

The vintage 120’s are still a terrific bargain.

How does the new nib "feel" in comparison to the vintage one?

Don't know yet, as I haven't inked up the old one... still in the process of cleaning out decades-old dried up ink! I think I'll give it a go next weekend.

Kind regards,

In eventually Pelikan bought up Geha.

I don't consider the vintage regular flex 120 a bargain any more....10 years ago, yes. Mine was a gift and still has all it's gold plating.

A Geha school pen, is the Bust Buy in regular flex.

On German Ebay...the seller has to take Paypal and ship out of Germany....and some are too cheap to do so.

With a bit of luck you can still find a Geha School pen....has a serial number to prevent theft, for E-12 to E19. There is no reason to pay more. Do not push the Buy Now Idiot button. Or you will pay Stateside prices.

I've seen well polished Geha school pens offered for Only $89 by German pirates to US buyers. I'd say something about that , but it would be insulting.

I have two Geha School pens...each is a tad different from another, they won't take each other's nib. Mostly the Geha school pen takes a FK nib...........with the K bump underneath....like the American Bump Under nibs....instead of having the Kugal on top of the nib like all other Kugal nibs....but Kugal means ball,

Geha (Degussa/Bock made) nibs are a slight tad better than Pelikan nibs, including the School pens.

The school pen is very well built, has very good balance like the 790 it so resembles.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
