Montblanc Red Fox (Petit Prince Le Series)

I was looking for these ones - the bigger https://www.cultpens.com/i/q/HR57665/herbin-1798-inks-collection of which there are only 2 colours.

I didn't realise there was a different shaped bottle for J Herbin. I was hoping there were more of the 1798 style ones as I like the bottles.

Although - now I do see the other smaller looking bottles (are they glass? it's a little hard to tell but they look it), I fear I may not be able to restrain myself and will end up spending far more than I was intending. XD

Those bigger bottles are inks with shimmer particles in the bottles.

Oh really?

Well now I want one even more hah - but I think I'll avoid putting it in my MBs just in case.

Do. When you see how much of that shimmer gunk sticks to an ink window, you’ll start worrying about clogged feeds. Leave those for the easy to disassemble cheap pens.

Yeah I had heard that. Thing it will be one for my really old cheap 99p pen I used at school.

The ink is a bonus in that case. I've been using it a lot lately and I really like it. In a wide, wet nib it's very beautiful and in my fine nibs it ranges between a pale orange and a reddish brown (depending on nib wettness).

I changed my mind about this ink (I too kind of want it just for the box!) but I couldn't get it when I was passing through Heathrow last week as they'd just sold it :( So now I'll have to buy online.

Thank you for continuing to provide benchmark reviews. We are richer (or poorer) for your efforts . . . :)

Ditto.

I do however enjoy the bottle.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well, I may be weird because I'm totally in love with this ink. I am not particularly fond of bright bold bolors, and this brownish orange is muted enought for me to enjoy it!

I think is well behaved and has lovevly shading! Here are some pictures, sorry for the focus issues and the language lol (English is not my first language).

PS: It also pairs fantastically with my recently acquired vintage "I don't recognize its brand" fountain pen.

Charge a human money amount of currency for it and id buy a bottle. Love the color. But not going to pay over thirty bucks for under 100mL of ink.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Pssst.....you don't have to buy it if you don't want it or like it.

~ Uncial and ArielCB:

Thank you for your positive comments.

The Montblanc Red Fox ink was in the periphery of my thinking until reading this thread.

The nice images from ArielCB are persuasive.

Describing its characteristics in a wide wet nib is exactly what I'd like to know.

Maybe it’s time to reconsider this ink.

I usually gravitate towards blue-ish or purplish inks. I don't know what it is, but I've been filling many of my pens with this Petite Prince red fox ink. It's really pulling at my subconscious.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
