As the title states, I'm realistically new to Fountain Pens. Almost 25 years ago my parents returned from a trip abroad with a dip-nib writing set. I went out and bought some ink, tried it a couple of times and left the ink bottles on my desk. Everything stayed dormant until 2018.

Early this year while in my office, a conversation ensued about the ink and the little wooden box. A few days later I had a Jinhao 250 in my hands. After on and off use of the pen, I loaded it with some of the old ink. I did enjoy writing with it and while trying to learn a bit more about pens, was given a Parker IM Premium(medium) by my church. And the slippery slope gave out from under me.

Last month I was able to try a couple of pens, and among them all, took a real shine to an Esterbook SJ with a 2668 nib. I find the size, economics and visual elements of the pen to be really appealing...especially the economics. While trying to research the Esterbrook pens, I continued to end up following a link to this forum. So now, here I am - a new guy from Northeast Texas, hoping to learn and eventually contribute in one way or another.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
