St Dupont On Ebay Authenticity Help

Mulrich

Recommended Posts

I recently became a big fan of Dupont pens and came across an eBay listing that looked interesting but Im not sure if its authentic. I also recently got burned by a counterfeit Dupont on eBay so I am very cautious (this was my first counterfeit purchase and I want to avoid future mistakes).

Ive done some google due deligence based on the reported model number but couldnt find proof the pen is legit. I also did a more generic search and found a couple other websites selling the pen but these sites didnt help confirm this is an authentic model (and searching the model names from those sites also didnt turn up any support for authenticity). Im leaning towards fake but wanted to tap the wisdom of FPN before moving on (and filing a report with eBay if it is fake).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey Modern Vintage -

I too am a recent S.T. DuPont afficianado. I didn’t see the serial number on the narrow edge of the clip and I haven’t seen “Laque De Chine” on the end of the barrel, but I’m certainly not an expert.

Good luck!

I looked at that listing and can't see anything about it that suggests it might be a fake Dupont. That seller seems to be a legitimate seller too.

I didn't see anything concerning either but I also couldn't find this model anywhere else which was concerning. I didn't see many other pens in the seller's listings so they may not be aware if it was counterfeit. The fake pen I bought seemed legit too until I had it in hand and I'm not sure the seller realized it was counterfeit (I now know a little better what to look for).

Regardless, the listing in question is no longer active. I'm not sure if the pen sold or if it was taken down for some other reason.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
