We're coinciding the release of our latest fountain pen with our first trip to the DC Pen Show. Our latest release in our Signature Series, the Vertex fountain pen will be available for purchase exclusively at the DC Pen Show August 3-5.

This new release is a pocket fountain pen machined from U.S. made acrylic acetate. It is designed as an eyedropper but can also accept standard international cartridges. It features a non-standard grip section that widens to the width of the barrel and when machined out of translucent material provides an "ink window" that is visible with the cap on or off. The Vertex utilizes two o-rings in the section and barrel, one below the section threads in the barrel and the other at the base of the nib; these two o-rings eliminate the need for silicone grease to seal the grip section and barrel. A third o-ring in the cap provides for an airtight cap seal as well as a snap cap design. Designed with a torpedo shaped body, soft curves, a concave upper cap design; the features are comfortable and provide a unique look to a traditional design.

The Vertex fountain pen retails for $120 dollars with a Bock polished steel nib, is available in Black or Green, with grip sections in Translucent Orange, Red, Blue, Amber, and Smoke. It comes with a custom fit, black with grey stitching Rickshaw Bagworks pen sleeve. The full production run expected release is late September 2018.

For more information check out the pictures or our video introducing the pen.

Oh man. Eyedropper! I was hoping for converter but this is even better.

Gosh I need this. I won't make the pen show so I'll have to wait for the production release...but I'm excited about it!

That pen had better write like a dream for that price. Or mow your lawn.

The price is well in line with other handmade pens of similar construction.

Very pretty!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I really want one of these in green, not sure what section color though. I can't wait until they do the production run.

I want one in black with a gray, blue or orange section (I can't decide).

Next thing I'd love to see (hint KarasKustoms! :D) is a shut off valve eyedropper. There aren't enough of them at the $100-200 price point on the market in durable finishes (Urushi is gorgeous but not that utilitarian and neither is the price let's be honest.)

Urushi isnt cheap but its a pretty durable material. Its not as damage proof as metal but Id put it above many plastics. If you have a history of being tough on pens urushi probably isnt a good option but more because of price than utility.

Opus 88 makes a number of eyedropper models with a shut off valve that range in price from $93 to $125. Most use a Jowo #5 nib and one model uses the #6 size. Some are resin, some resin with ebonite.

Back to the Karas Vertex, I would order one today if I could. It would be cool if the sold the sections separate so that you could swap sections depending on the color of ink being used.

I know, I have an Opus 88 Koloro and it's one of my favorite pens. :D

I still want Karas to make one. :D

We had one of our lathes break down, and which stopped production on the Vertex at about the 1/3 mark. We are hopeful that the machine will be fixed this week, but it's pushed back the release into November. At this point we're crossing our fingers for a release before Thanksgiving but it depends on how quickly we can get back on track with machining the pens.

Thanks so much for the update. For me this is by far the most attractive Karas pen made to date, so I was getting anxious when no further information appeared.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
