Hello! My name is Megan and I am going on 19 years of age this coming August. I have been collecting fountain pens since December of my 17th year, so since 2016! So far I have acquired more than just pens: I have acquired knowledge, understanding, and a greater appreciation for analogue writing and the romance in a quality writing experience.

 

This hobby has thrust me into a world of so much that I wish I could ever even begin to scratch the surface of. I desire to attend pen shows in the future and expand my collection of pens and inks, as well as be able to expand my collection of paper as well. I have become so inspired by this hobby that It has sparked in me a need to make my own pens, and maybe even one day have my own pen company. Though I have not done either yet, it is but an inkling of a dream, an idea, though I am on my way there, slowly but surely!

 

I often find that I can strike up a conversation with a random person and somehow start telling them about fountain pens as though it were my lifes work, and usually I get responses like, "Thats so interesting! I had no idea that people even collected those things...or that they are even made anymore!" or "OH so you do calligraphy?" As you can see, there is a need to educate on the topic and spread the word of what these instruments truly are, how they differ from dip pens, and why they are still relevant... and so that is my reasoning for doing what I do, for talking about it, writing about it, and always, ALWAYS showing off my pens when the opportunity arises!

 

I look forward to interacting more on this platform and further gaining knowledge and experience in the hobby with the Fountain Pen Network!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
