Please help me identify a Cross F/pen

Hi all, I'm not an expert and came to possess a Cross fountain pen. Can anyone help me with identifying and valuing it please?

The box is the old green and gold one. At the side is a sticker with the following:

326 - 4M AMB/G FP

Made in USA

The Pen measures about 5.3" with cap on.

It has a very short cap, just 1.5" - and is brown lacque with gold top and clip.

The rest of the pen is gold (of some metal), with a black (plastic?) base.

When you remove the cap, the nib is gold with a motif (like skyscrapers) and the word CROSS.

Sorry I don't have a digital camera to send you pictures. Appreciate any help you can offer. Many thanks.

Many thanks for that tip! The Metropolis is a lovely pen - the brown lacquer cap and gold accents are something I've not come across, but I'm a new collector. Thanks again.

The Metropolis model does look gorgeous, doesn't it? :) I mentioned it a couple of months ago in an another Cross FPN thread.

Since you actually own a Cross Metropolis, Elaine, could you please tell me if the cap is quite heavy or not? I tend to post the caps on my pens (with some exceptions) and am wondering how well balanced the pen would be if posted. Mind you, I don't know where I could even buy the pen. I think there is/was someone on Penbid who was selling them, but he/she only ships to U.S addresses.... :(

Hi Maja, No, the cap is lighter than most I know, probably because it is slim and small. I'm guessing that the balance of the pen is ok without posting the cap, because I haven't inked it yet - and may not do so since it's such a nice pen! There is a website that seems to be selling Metropolis pens (I searched for "cross" "metropolis" and "fountain pen" on yahoo.com). But their colors are limited and they don't look identical to mine (a later/earlier model?). Perhaps they will deliver outside the US. Good luck!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
