Try to contact the hubmaster in your town. Our normal place for the hub was booked so we're in a smaller venue.

I usually welcome guests -as long as they know about the swag thing. I am nervous about how crowded it could get but our hub usually ebbs and flows with people arriving late.

Thanks! I'll do that. And good luck, I'm sure yours will be great.

At pen club yesterday I learned some people think our hub master is the pen store owner (we meet outside his store). No communication at all. We figure it will be held at the regular pen club place (outside his store).

That part doesnt really matter. Its the lack of communication.

It would be nice to meet somewhere else. The area we use is a common area with tables for the nearby restaurants and cafes without their own seating. Round tables with 4 chairs at each. We have to move them to make a better meeting area then move them back. At least we get 20% off our purchases at the pen store.

Last communication with the Salt Lake hubmaster was about three weeks ago. As he has commented twice in this thread I reached out to him to see if we have a location yet. I am sure the last couple of weeks have been hectic with University classes starting in that time frame and him being a Professor.

Got an email today, and it is indeed the pen store owner, so the meeting is outside his store. But he is offering 25% off Pelikan purchases, and 20% off all other purchases. He also mentioned the nearby in mall food options.

I am hoping for a good time. It will feel a lot like pen club, but that is always a good time.

Just checked the email and the 25% off is on Pelikan products, so I could get a bottle of Edelstein ink for $23.80 plus the 9% tax rate. Maybe Sapphire.

Hello everyone. If youre interested, the Pelikan Hubs team in Hanover allowed me the opportunity to interview them about the event. I asked a series of 20 questions and present the answers just as they came from Germany. I hope that it might be of some general interest to you. You can read about it at https://wp.me/p4XMw3-1KX.

Wow, that was an insightful interview thanks for sharing.

I did not know that in the past, a full complementary set of Edelstein was given out. I'm sure it will not be repeated again due to the number of participant this year (and probably the next ones) but that is a generous move by Pelikan.

The quote :

"We would not call it a special surprise, but we are very happy with our selection for this year"

So don't get too hyped up on the gifts people, just enjoy meeting the people that has the same hobbies as you!

They supplied a full set which hub masters used as an ink sampling station. Think it was during the second year. Went over very well. Hub masters could choose to give away remaining ink at the events conclusion which was also a nice boon.

The above interview mentions that each hub master will be sent a full line of Edelstein inks again this year.

I was hub master last year and again this year. I brought a bunch of sample vials and pipettes so everyone could take home Edelstein samples. Since we have a small group (<12) I'll probably give away the set to participants this year. The less I have to take home the better.

Now if only the venues I contacted would get back to me we could finalize the location.

Last night I went to my first Pelikan HUB event, in my hometown of Dublin :)

We had a small group, but with a surprising number of Pelikans and some really interesting pieces from other brands. It was also a reminder to bring more of my Pelikans into regular rotation, and to pay more attention to Pelikan ink - the new Edelstein Olivine is lovely

It was a really enjoyable evening in good company, and something I definitely hope to repeat :)

Here is the loadout of Pelikans I brought along...

I think there was also a Pelikan catalogue being handed out?

Had the Toronto hub on Friday night. First off, thanks to our hubmaster Salman.

Since I didn't know anyone, I was thinking it would either be lame and I'll be out of here quick, or it will be a lot of fun. Think we were there for 3 hours and the time seemed to fly by. So, yeah, great fun.

One of the gifts from Pelikan was a lovely pad of paper. With that, the pens came out, got passed around and we had a great time.

The bottle of ink is lovely, however, the catalogue is bitter sweet - Sweet because of the great pens but bitter because I want them all but don't have the budget. :) Oh and thanks to the local sponsors who provided extra prizes. I got lucky and won a lovely Midori Traveler kit

Thanks again to everyone involved in setting up a fun event.

The hub in Denver was great. I had registered, but was not positive I would be able to make it. Glad I did. A fun night of show and tell with interesting and generous pen people. The Pelikan gifts were a bonus, but not the main event for me. (And I made some pretty cool envelopes out of the catalog/magazine from Pelikan.)

The best result of the Pelikan Hub 2018:

An 8 year-old visitor yesterday asked me what I did on Friday night. I explained. She already knew of my FP interest. She asked all sorts of good questions about the hub, taking real interest. Then she asked to see the inks (bottles, samples, pen fills) from Friday night. Which led to swabbing and testing together. Then I gave her a Jinhao 599 (Lamy safari knockoff), since she wanted to use a pen. She picked her favorite blue ink. Then wanted to fill with a converter, not use a cartridge I offered her. Good questions about fill mechanisms. Then she filled it herself. Then wrote a beautiful (literally and figuratively) thank you letter to her uncle for the Lego set he gave her this week. (She was super excited to show her dad her handiwork.) She thought that the Edelstein ink bottle is SO beautiful that I need to keep it, even once the olivine ink is used up. She asked me how to safely transport the pen to school; she said she would use a ziploc bag, in case our altitude issues make the pen leak. And she asked about the frequency of filling, so I told her Id give her any color she wants anytime she needs it, even every couple of days. She seemed really happy about all of it: to be learning, to be using.

We just had our first Pelikan Hub in Calgary.

It was a wonderful event, especially because people came who do not normally participate in the meetings of the Calgary Pen Club. Spouses and significant others were encouraged to attend as well and that added to the event.

Our group is very inclusive and thus we welcomed anyone who wished to come even if they were not registered.

This swag we received from Pelikan was wonderful and the ink sampling station was a hit.

Big thanks to Pelikan for organizing this.

We are already looking forward to next year’s Pelikan Hub.

Had a great time at Columbus' first Hub -- great turnout for our first one!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
