Mine had some structure. I took the time to ask local merchants for donations for raffle/game prizes. I asked the four major merchants and I got four amazing prices (leather pen cases/rolls, amazing ink packages worth $$$), and of course, we had games.

That's nice, very enthusiastic bunch of group there

Yes, just got email of confirmation for the Hub and to my surprise, Jakarta has 35 participants. My initial guess was way off

Attendees seem to be getting their mails by now. I just received a notification or better: confirmation for the Berlin Hub. Decision about Hub Masters are next on the list over the course of this week, as the mail text says.

Yes, I got mine for this year's Pittsburgh Hub this morning.

I was Hub Master for Salt Lake City last year and was lucky to only have a few people sign (6 including me) up so we just met at a little restaurant. I can't imagine arranging the event for 50+ people without some meaningful costs. Even reserving a pavilion in a park has some costs though this is probably cheaper than most other venues.

So did you apply to do it again in Salt Lake? I am going this year for the first time. I noticed the number is up to 12.

Yessir -- I look forward to meeting another local pen person (even though I'm a BYU alum and USU professor, therefore required to dislike the U).

I'm glad we're up to 12 but that will make finding a location harder--last year we just met at a small restaurant. I feel bad for the hub masters in Toronto and other massive hubs.

I also got my confirmation for the Athens hub. Previous years the event was held by a bookstore owner, that has an amazing collection of pens, including of course Pelikans. Looking forward to my first hub !

Whoa seeing all these replies gives me a sense of the excitement that lies ahead. Best of Luck to the first-timers. Many comments remind me of my first time a year ago!

In Berlin we have 33 registered attendees, I just got the message this afternoon and the data as I was selected as Hub mistress and forwarded to a possible co-mistress, too, which I think is a nice idea. Finding a place to meet should not be too hard here I suppose. Yippieh! :P

I did not sign up for the hub in my area because there was a likelihood I could not make it - a point others have expressed as an issue with a large number of people registering and not showing. ANYWAY, I was wondering if it's possible to go to a hub as a non-registered participant. Of course I would not get any swag. Will the hub locations be posted or does one need to be a registered participant to know where the hub will be?

Thanks!

p.s. My first Pelikan was an M205 Classic. But the lightbulb went on when I purchased my first M400 Souveran :0)

There is at present a problem with this situation. The Pelikan Hubs Website does not have a way to register as a non-advanced register participant, but the rules indicate that one can be a non-advance registered participant. I have brought this problem to their attention. I suggest you email them directly and also point this out to them and ask to have your information sent to a local hub master as a non-advanced registered participant.

I'm sure you can go even as a non-registered participant, it is more of a hobbyist gathering rather than a limited seats type of event

This will be my first Pelikan Hub (in KC Missouri). Talk at pen club sounded like we might meet at a library.

It seems like I read somewhere that you can register late. The downside is the swag is provided for those who registered by the July deadline.

I’m looking forward to it. I hope we get to try the full line of Edelstein inks. I saw a photo of that on sargetalon’s Pelikan’s Perch blog.

I have heard about who may be our hubmaster and believe he will do a good job, but as he is not local to our metro core, he may need some help from our pen club in regard to a venue, other than a Library. It will be nice if it is a Library, but it will also be very simialer to a pen club meeting as we meet at a library typically for the same length of time as the pen hub, with largely the same people. But, if we are going to actually be bringing some Pelikans that rarely leave home, then maybe a well lit, safe and controlled library makes the most sense and we do have some of the best libraries in the U.S. In Columbus (actually and for many years reportedly the best large library system according to some measures, but that's off topic).

Be sure to spend some decent money at restaurant type meeting places. It's only fair to the proprietor. Plus it will help assure a place for the following year.

Thanks! I will email directly and see if I can be a non- registered participant.

For those who went to the DC Pen show, I hope you enjoyed it.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, I had to cancel after I registered last year.

This year, I registered for Boston, and should be able to make it. Just got the email from our hubmistress!

Try to contact the hubmaster in your town. Our normal place for the hub was booked so we're in a smaller venue.

I usually welcome guests -as long as they know about the swag thing. I am nervous about how crowded it could get but our hub usually ebbs and flows with people arriving late.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
