Wrong ....Wing Sung 698 choice of nibs are from 0.38 (EF) to 0.7 (M) and further more Wing Sung 698 was not been designated to post so that could been the origin of the crack on your cap .

Where did you find a Wing Sung 698 for 10 $ i never seen one for less then 15 $ !

I love Fountain Pens, with hooded nib in the classic style, Parker 51/61 type .

Yeah. I also find the crack surprising. About the silver cap ring not going to the bottom of the cap on the 698. Both pens have the re-enforcing ring where the threads are located.

I don't have a 580. I know the 698 can be left capped for 10 days and will write immediately without issue. I'm still waiting to be convinced that the 580 is better value.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I have 2 Wing Sung 698 with M nibs , one in full transparent and one with the white cap and turning knob , and i have no problems with them so far ....must take in too consideration that the one with the white cap has almost a year of use .

As I said in the video...it's a "different value." I think the 580 is about as good a pen as you're going to get for $50. The 698 is an ok pen at its price point, but it's not even the best Wing Sung pen at that price point (that IMHO is the 618).

Yes the Wing Sung 618 it is a very nice hooded nib fountain pen ....and i love hooded nibs but solid fountain pens they are not . I have a blue transparent , a red transparent , a full transparent (all with silver trims ) , a red and a black in solid colors . The solid color ones developed cracks in the grip section and in the barrel and the red transparent one in the grip section . My luck was that the seller replaced the broken parts for free .

Convince me that TWSBI pen is not of the exact same material as the transparent Wing Sung 698 that is 1/4 - 1/5 of the price.............

I would not be happy about the Wing Sung cracking, never mind a TWSBI that did the same thing.

However.............. I have read of a network member having a very poor experience with a bundle of WS 698 they bought where nearly every one was defective.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
