Hi everybody,

I have loved fountain pens since I was a child learning to write with them in the '50s. As a 5th grader, I was introduced to them when we had to practice the Palmer method of handwriting. To this day, I can spot a Palmer Method practitioner in a heartbeat. I rediscovered them some time in the late '90s and have been collecting them on and off ever since. I am interested in snailing with other fountain pen lovers, near and far.

 

I am partial to vintage pens with flex, oblique, or stub nibs. Newer pens are good, too, but usually with a specialty nib of some kind. Love many different ink colors but seem partial to differing shades of blue. I am a retired school counselor/teacher and finally have the time to write that I craved when I was working. Hope to meet some of you soon by letter!

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell. I assume when you mention Palmer you DO mean Jim Palmer.

Hi,

Graduated from U of M, College Park in '73. I also felt the effects of teargas. Instead of "Fear the Tortoise", It was "----k the Teargas!" Looked up the translation of your verse at the bottom. It's beautiful!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
