Pen Kimono Project

Hello pen friends,

My name is Long Le from Otis Handmade, Vietnam.

Some of our pen lovers at Otis have just made a fabric pen case for their daily carry fountain pens and many people ask us to bring the case to the public. We have decided to run a project for Single pen Kimono and Pen Wrap. Before we introduce the products to the world, we would like to hear from the pen community for what people want for their pen case.

Here is the Single pen Kimono prototype. We use Japanese cotton for the exterior and US cotton for the interior. The kimono can eaily hold the Conklin Duragraph (Length: 140mm capped; Cap max diameter: 15mm). The bigger pen can also go with this Kimono and the smaller will not get lost.

The cord and the lock ball are also imported from Japan.

We will upload the 4-pen-wrap case as soon as the prototype is ready.

Kindly let us know what you expect from the Kimono so that we could alter the current design before mass production. We will sell them online via Etsy and Amazon US.

Thank you for your time. Feel free to contact me, should you need anything.

Long Le

It would be more attractive without a mismatched seam in the front. Not as easy to produce, but a more harmonious and pleasing effect.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Thank you for the feedback. I have come up with one solution that we could move the connecting stitching line to the side of the case to avoid the issue with matching pattern. However, doing so would make the case looks flat.

Worth a try. We will keep this a design element and make a prototype.

Hi

I like the design and the material, in the future I'd be interested in seeing this developing a double and possibly a pen roll.

I'm definitely interested in ordering when they are ready, in the meantime I would be happy to buy a prototype and test it for you.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
