Have to turn the piston filler to see the clip....what imprint is on the nib.....is it striped or is that photoflash?

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ooh. What's the Pelikan? And what's the nib on the P45?

Nice haul. I looked at one of those chrome piston-fills but thought asking price was too high. Wasn't aware it had a folded nib, glad now I passed (though that's not necessarily a bad thing).

The 45 is the last generation model. Up to about 2007 or 2008 (forget which) when they were discontinued. Spikey Mike is the resident 45 guy. Even has a very comprehensive website on the 45 as well as other Parker pens as well. http://pencollect.co.uk/

Cool! Very interested in how that piston filler from the first picture writes: wet, dry? In relation to how whatever ink you use comes out in other pens; does the ink seem to evaporate little or a lot? I ask because certain inks look better (to my eyes!) in drier pens that don't evaporate as quickly: Ama Iro, Kon Peki...

Also: is it a single nib / feed unit like in Pelikans or is it easy to disassemble (and hence clean, swap inks)?

Does it feel well put together?

I would say it's very much a Budget German Piston filler from the 80's / 90's

It would be on PAR with the better Chinese Pens . But not as good as the best .

The piston action feels fine , there is no lock .

Writes better than the Wing 3008 and other Chinese Piston fillers I have ..

I have 4 of these I think now .. ( Get it cheap enough and you'l probably like it , pay too much and ? )

2x Daiso Fountain Pens - $8.12 Ozzi Bananas ( Shipped to my door )

I guess Daiso is a Budget Japanese Fountain Pen ?

Daiso is a budget Japanese everything. They are a Japanese 'dollar shop' chain selling pretty much everything under the sun; decoration, stationery, kitchen or garden things, some clothing, etc... Wikipedia says there are some on your side of the world, if you want to check them out.

I haven't tried their fountain pens I must admit

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
