Non Twsbi Nib Replacements For Eco ?

TWSBI said I'd have to get a Mini nib unit to get a medium nib for my Eco that came with a fine nib. Do other nib brands fit the Eco or must I buy a Mini nib unit? Thanks !

FPnibs.com sells TWSBI branded loose nibs and nib units individually: the mini/Vac mini nibs will fit, and you can also get a custom grind (aka needlepoint, italic, etc) if that interests you.

I've heard of other members fitting a #5 nib from Fountain Pen Revolution into their Eco or Mini: hopefully someone can clarify because I'm not sure but the Eco/Mini nibs are darn close to standard #5, though maybe just slightly longer or differently curved.

Worst case option: buy another Eco: only a few dollars more than a Mini nib unit...shows just how good of a deal the Eco is.

fpnibs.com used to sell custom 'tweaked' JoWo nibs that fit the Eco, but had too many complaints from customers that they still didn't quite fit (the curvature of a standard JoWo #5 isn't quite the same). They *do* now sell TWSBI nibs that will fit, but they're not much cheaper than a TWSBI nib assembly - and there's the (admittedly reasonable) cost of international shipping if you're not in the EU.

I have not been successful at swapping in Fountain Pen Revolution nibs - again, the curvature is not identical, so the nib doesn't sit snugly against the feed - but others have managed to make it work.

If you decided to go the route of buying a nib assembly (which is not *that* much cheaper than buying another Eco!), I'd recommend the Vac Mini assembly - the Diamond Mini nib assembly is wedged much more firmly and there's a far greater risk of harming the feed when you 'harvest' the nib. [And the feed is worth having as a spare - it should fit the Eco also!]

Thanks everyone. It's looking like a new pen is sensibly justifiable. Woo hoo ! :lticaptd:

Congrats in advance. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
