Parker 51 Demonstrator?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Parker 51 for experimenting and I came across a seller that sold Ariel Kullock custom Parker 51 parts. One of their parts bins had an aerometric demonstrator hood and barrel part. I bought one of them for $40 and wondered if anyone else has had experience with a P51 demonstrator. Were they made originally by Parker too? How well does clear Lucite stand up to ink stains? Should I EDC this considering the whole setup only cost me around $55?

The Lucite on my 51s with Kullock hood and barrel, which are all aerometric, has stains from ink on the hood. I haven't tried to get the stains out, because I don't feel like disassembling the pen. They are now just display pieces. Mine are amethyst and pearly yellow. A Vacumatic in translucent Lucite would be more fun, because you could see the filler work.

Yes, Parker originally made Demonstrator versions of the "51".

Are there any imprints on the blue pen barrel or blind cap?

There is nothing on the Blind Cap.

The barrel has the imprint by the Clutch Ring and the date code of "T6".

Azuniga, both of my Vac Demos have the yellowish breather tube.

One has the clear feed (shown above) and the other is black like yours.

Azuniga, is the blue lozenge on the clip on the cap on the left the "lifetime warranty" sign?

Indeed... this is what Richard Binder writes in his reference pages:

The Blue Diamond clip: In 1939, Parker settled on the Blue Diamond to denote its lifetime guarantee. The Blue Diamond clip looks like the Star clip except that the star has been replaced by a blue-enameled diamond.

Teri, since my photos no longer show you can't see that all my Demos are Vacs.

With the Demo Vac 51s you can see a lot you wouldn't otherwise see.

Interesting would be the T6 date code on a demonstrator.

Interesting would be the T6 date code on a demonstrator.

It would make for a good prototype, or test model for the new line?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
