When Are The New Lamy Inks Coming?

I guess I think of a company like Visconti when you have different models. Could you call it gimmicky at a point with so many models and sizes within models and so forth? Sure, but a balance would be nice.

I mean Lamy has the sleek tube design with the Accent, Aion, CP1, Logo, and I'd even throw in the 2k but it's at least brushed finish is different. Heck, the Studio too, but at least the clip is different and cool that I can readily tell it apart. Yes, I get this is the basic shape for 99.9% of all pens made, but Lamy's all look incredibly similar and I can't tell you what's the big difference, especially since they all fall into the same price range.

Then there's the Safari, Al-Star, Joy, Vista, and LX pens. These are really all the same exact pen, just difference in body material. They're so interchangeable (which isn't bad) there's scores of 3D printer mods for the pens that work well. The Joy is physically different, but if you saw it posted from afar next to the others, I wouldn't know the difference.

And what do they offer ink-wise? Like less than 10 colors (normal edition) that are the most uninspired inks made? They remind me of Waterman inks, yeah they work, sure they have colors, but I just about took a nap from boredom. I think my favorite part of a Lamy ink experience is they include the little blotter paper to wipe your nib.

As being one of the biggest fountain pen companies (who is #1? Pilot I'd assume?), I'd like to see a bit more trying on their part. Botched launches here, botched product availability in certain regions, all that jazz just doesn't scream utilitarian and measured like Lamy projects. Having a conservative line of products is fine! I just wish that flowed over into the actual implementation of said products.

1) Design is not only about shape, and as you say, 99.9% of fps do have this basic shape... it's funny I don't remember reading such a complaint about other well known German companies... (I don't count the high end luxury market, bit even there, the innovations are not legion).

2) It seems that in North America, the Safari is not considered as a school pen; in central Europe it is, and the LX and others are just a "luxuous" school pen.

3) The offer of so many ink is a recent phenomenon and used to be the distinctive mark of small companies as Noodler's ink. Lamy is late in the game, it's true, but go back a few years and you will see that companies like Pelikan or Pilot did have the same kind of offer. Waterman is still offering very basic inks (I understand Waterman is not Waterman anymore and is part of a bigger company).

4) You choose the models you are referring to very conveniently what about the ABC? the D3? the Nexx? the Persona? the Lady?

Yes, Lamy does receive strange comments. Everyone is entitled to his-her opinion of course, but I really wonder "why"...

So, when are these inks coming? Basically, no one really knows?

That's already been covered in this thread. Lamy officially has announced end of this year.

I doubt there is any innovation left in FP, it is just a case of colors and embellishments.

That's become a tautology. Innovate even slightly and it ceases to be a fountain pen. That was less true 50 years ago, when "fountain pen" still included anything weird&wonderful which just happened to have a fountain feed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
