Hello From Seoul, Korea!

Greetings from Seoul, South Korea.

I've been lurking since last year and decided to join at last so I can get some questions answered by the knowledgeable folks here.

I occupy a "niche" in the fountain pen community because I am a left-handed overwriter with small handwriting who sticks exclusively to extra-fine (or Japanese fine) nibs and prefer thin paper such as Moleskine to the typical fountain pen paper. So my needs are more specific than most fountain pen aficionados, and I must do careful research before deciding to purchase a new pen--the nib cannot be broad, the ink flow must not be excessive.

There must be others who have similar needs to my own, and for those people I will be glad to answer any questions about my own meager collection and how they suit our special needs, and also what pens to avoid.

Attached is a photo the 6-pen set that I took to work today:

-Aurora 88 Sigaro (18K), EF

-Sailor 1911 Large Realo, F

-Platinum President, F

-Pilot Custom 845 "Urushi", F

-Pelikan M800, EF

-Lamy Dialog, EF

Some of my other pens include:

-Montblanc 149, EF

-Omas Arte Italiana Paragon, F

-Visconti Homo Sapiens, EF

-Aurora 88 (14K), EF

-Aurora 88 Flex

-Aurora Ipsilon Deluxe, EF

-Pilot Custom 74, EF & F

-Pilot Custom 743, FA

-Pilot Custom 823, F

-Sailor 1911 Large "Black Lustre", EF

-Sailor 1911 Standard, EF & F

-Platinum President, EF

And I have 2 incoming pens in the mail which I am looking forward to:

-Montblanc Writer's Edition: Edgar Allan Poe, EF

-Pilot Custom Urushi Vermilion (#30 nib), FM

Pleased to make your acquaintance!

Eliot

Whenever you are fed up with life, start writing: ink is the great cure for all human ills, as I found out long ago.

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
