Jinhao X450 Vs Jinhao X450 Vs Jinhao X450

yes I have 3 Jinhao X450's

One has had the NIB massaged and was until recently my best writing FP . ( Was bested by the Jinhao X250 and Jinhao X750 )

Anyhow !

I had another 0.5 X450 as well a 0.7 X450 .. So I thought I better ink them up .

Both the Factory Stock 0.5 and 0.7 X450's are scratchy , not smooth at all . The massaged X450 is smoother .

I was a little surprised I could not tell the difference between the 0.5 and 0.7 Nibs . They feel exactly the same and put about the same amount of ink on paper .

So looks like the X750 is simply the best Chinese writer to date ( And it's factory stock to boot ) .

I should buy another X750 to see if I just got lucky ..

All my X450's have felt pretty much the same ( 3 out of 3 ) .

So it could be , if you want a decent Chinese FP , you might want a X750 ... (?)

The X250 writes well , but I dont like the grip on it , feels awkward ..

Wonder if I can rip the NIB out ? , maybe put it on my Moonman M2 ( Ooooh , that would be nice )

somehow I never quite get the urge for the X250/450/750 ... the 159 really only one that tickle my fancy among the lot of heavy metals from Jinhao, though there are specific individual models that I like too. But for sure one thing I never find Jinhao anything close to best Chinese writer ( stock ) among the steel nib gang ... I really would put the contemporary and mostly current production Hero(s) as such instead.

I am slowly moving through my collection of Chinese pens ( FP ) ..

I have some HERO / BAOER / I also have the 159 .. There are a lot of pens to get through ..

ATM I am testing how they write , not really taking how the pen feels into account just yet , though the X250 I have taken an exception to ( Dont like how it feels in the hand ) .

So this is all relevant as I move along and test pens .

Doing just one pen is slow , so I am going to be doing the testing in groups .. Pick out the top pens .. Then compare them to the past best pen ( In this case the X750 )

Best as in how they write ( NIB to paper - not pen to hand )

So the plan is to speed up the process - Parker Quink black is my test ink and I need to get some more ..

Then there is the growing number of budget Euro / US pens .. I guess ill get around to them after the Chinese Pens ..

As for what I like = Moonman M2 , well I would really like it if it had a good NIB on it .. I have some NIBs on the way , so guess I will have to test some NIBs and find a good one for the M2

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
